‘Blue’s Clues’ Original Host Steve Burns Surprises Colbert on ‘Late Show’

Crying, no doubt an underrated and should-be-more-frequent activity, was widespread earlier this week after the release of some special anniversary-marking output from the Blue’s Clues corner of the universe.
In case you missed it, and there’s no way that’s possible, original series host Steve Burns achieved virality off the strength of a comforting video in which he told now-grown-up viewers he “never forgot” them.
“I’m super glad we’re still friends,” Steve said in the clip, which was part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nick Jr. classic.
The clip, understandably, received special mention on the latest episode of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. While Colbert noted that he was “a grown-up in the late 90s,” he became noticeably moved by the video as he played it for his audience.
“Um, you know, nice message and everything but the show is for my kids and I am a man and—by definition—I feel nothing,” Colbert said, unconvincingly. Showing superb timing, it’s at this moment that Burns himself emerged on the set to offer Colbert some comfort.
“I just came by to see if you were okay,” Burns said. “You seem kind of upset and I just wanted to know if maybe you wanted a hug. I mean, that’s what friends do, right?” From there, Colbert alerted his audience that he had simultaneously stumbled upon a clue, prompting Burns to suggest they immediately head out to inform Blue of this discovery.
