Burger King Apologizes for ‘Insensitive’ Chopsticks Ad

Burger King has apologized after receiving backlash for an advertisement that was released by its franchise in New Zealand, CNN reports.
The ad in question features people using chopsticks to eat Burger King’s “Vietnamese Sweet Chilli Tendercrisp Burger.”
“Take your taste buds all the way to Ho Chi Minh City with our Vietnamese Sweet Chilli Tendercrisp,” they wrote in the caption of the advertisement.

“The ad in question is insensitive and does not reflect our brand values regarding diversity and inclusion,” a Burger King spokeswoman said in a statement to CNN.
Though it was deleted from their social media accounts, the fast-food chain’s “Vietnamese Sweet Chilli Tendercrisp Burger” still appears on the company’s website. “Creamy mayo, crispy lettuce, juicy tomato slices, white onion and a crunchy panko crumbed Tendercrisp Chicken Patty, drowning in mouth-watering sweet chilli sauce,” the fast-food company wrote about the burger. “Your taste buds won’t ever want to go home.”
Burger King’s recent ad reminded many of a series of promtional videos from Dolce & Gabbana that also featured chopsticks. Dolce & Gabbana and Stefano Gabbana later claimed that the racist clips were posted after their accounts were hacked. “We are very sorry for any distress caused by these unauthorized posts,” they wrote in a statement.
