Canadian TV Network CBC Explains Why They Cut Trump’s Brief ‘Home Alone 2’ Cameo

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has been forced to address why their own TV version of the 1992 film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York doesn’t include Donald Trump‘s 10-second cameo. The scene involves Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister walking through New York’s Plaza Hotel and asking Trump, who owned the hotel at the time, for directions to the lobby.
The CBC explained through their head of public affairs Chuck Thompson that Trump’s scene was part of a series of edits to the original that shaved off eight minutes in order to get more commercials into the telecast. Thompson says these cuts “were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.”
“As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time,” Thompson told CNBC. “The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot.”
Don’t tell that to Trump, who when asked if Home Alone 2 was his favorite holiday movie during a video conference with members of the U.S. military on Christmas Eve, raved about how “young kids” recognize him from his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the film “especially around Christmas.”
“Well, I’m in Home Alone 2, and a lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas,” he said. “They say, ‘I just saw you.’ Especially young kids, they say, ‘I just saw you on the movie.’ They don’t see me on television as they do in the movie. But it’s been a good movie and I was a little bit younger, to put it mildly, and it was an honor to do it.
“And it turned out to be a very big hit, obviously, it’s a big Christmas hit, one of the biggest, so it’s an honor to be involved in something like that,” he added. “You always like to see success.”
It’s safe to assume that none of these “young kids” who have recognized him from Home Alone 2 come from Canada.
Trump also responded to the news by bringing up Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
