Mollie Fitzgerald, an actress who appeared in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, has been arrested for the murder of her 68-year-old mother in Kansas.
According to Page Six, the actress/producer/director was taken into custody Tuesday, 11 days after authorities found Patricia E. Fitzgerald inside an Olathe, Kansas, residence with an apparent stab would. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and Mollie Fitzgerald was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Kansas City Star reports Patricia Fitzgerald was in the process of moving back to Kansas City after residing in Montgomery, Texas, for several decades. The victim’s brother Gary Hunziker told the outlet he did not have many details about the circumstances surrounding his sister’s death, simply stating he and his family were shocked.
“… It doesn’t matter the circumstances — the loss of a sister is what it’s all about,” he said.
Mollie Fitzgerald portrayed the small role of Stark Girl in the first installment of the Captain America franchise. She spoke about her experience working on the film in a 2011 interview with Comic Book Movie.
“I have a small acting role in the film. It was a lot of fun to shoot, and I could go on for hours about the magic of Anna Sheppard and her team in the costume department. They were some of my favorite people to work with,” she said. “Although my part is small in this film, I did get to work closely with Dominic Cooper (who played Howard Stark) for a few minutes and that was wonderful. Joe Johnston is an unbelievable director, and I’ve learned a lot about directing from him. Being a part of this production has been one of the best experiences of my life.”
According to her IMDb, she also worked on films like The Creeps, The Lawful Truth, Trouble Is My Business, and the Fireball documentary.
Mollie Fitzgerald is now facing a second-degree murder charge and remains behind bars on $500,000 bond. The 38-year-old is expected to be arraigned Thursday.
