Since its release, Captain Marvel has gone on to break several records, including being the highest grossing film with a female lead ever, as well as cracking the top ten list of highest grossing superhero movies. It appears as if the origin story is not going to be slowing down any time soon.
Variety reports that Brie Larson-led movie has officially surpassed the billion dollar milestone, as global ticket sales amount to over ten figures. Last Sunday (March 24), it was reported that it had made over $900 million globally, becoming the tenth highest grossing comic book superhero film of all time.
The Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck-directed feature film is now the seventh movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make over $1 billion, joining (in order of release date) The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. In addition, it is also Disney’s 18th film $1 billion grossing release. All 21 MCU movies have made a total of $18.5 billion worldwide.
It appears Marvel is on track to release another picture to achieve that feat, as the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame is estimated to take home about $800 million during its opening weekend. Larson’s will reprise her role has Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in Endgame, which will be out in theaters April 26.
