Cardi B On “Press” Chart Performance: ‘People Are Just So Tired of Me Winning’

Written by on December 9, 2019

Cardi B has never been shy when it comes to responding to criticism, and in her Vogue cover story, she’s taken aim at her detractors once again. Earlier this year, she addressed those who doubted her on “Press,” but it performed poorly compared to her previous singles. After it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 16, Cardi noticed that she had people labeling the song a “flop,” but ultimately she’s still happy with how it turned out.

“I thought ‘Press’ was fun and it was gangsta, and then because it didn’t perform as good as my other songs, people was like, Oh, she’s a flop; oh, she’s dying out,” she explained. “This whole year has just been a lot for me. I feel like people are just so tired of me winning. I will look for my name on Twitter, and it’s like hate tweets, hate tweets, hate tweets.”

The poor performance of “Press” came after the release of “Please Me” with Bruno Mars, which peaked at No. 3 in the countrty. Both of the singles are expected to show up on her highly-anticipated second studio album, Tiger Woods. As of right now, she hasn’t revealed a release date for the project but she did say it will arrive at some point in 2020.

In her interview with Vogue, Cardi spoke a little bit further about how work on the album has been going.

“The first time it was just me being myself. I didn’t even care if people was gonna like it or not,” she explained. “It’s scary because it’s like, now you got to top your first album, and then it’s like, damn. I wonder if people are gonna relate to the new things, to the new life, to the new shit that I gotta talk about now. “
