Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Taylor Hearn might get himself fired on his day off. The guard, heading into his second season in the NFL, was knocked unconscious during a bar fight in Augusta, Georgia that was captured on video.
In the clip shared by TMZ, the 315-pound lineman was dropped by a well-placed shot to the head. Hearn drops to the pavement and stays down for a bit. As soon as he stands back up, however, Hearn goes right back to fighting.
The police arrived shortly thereafter, according to witnesses who spoke to the gossip website, but no arrests were made.
Prior to his time with the Panthers, Hearn was a member of the 2016 Clemson team that brought a national championship to South Carolina. The 23-year-old signed with the Panthers last year, starting out on the practice squad. A series of injuries to the team’s lineman led to Hearn at the in four games at the end of last season.
That playing time put Hearn in position to compete for a roster spot. It remains to be seen if this video will hurt his chances the way it no doubt hurts his pride.
The Panthers released a brief statement on the matter. It is unclear whether Hearn will be suspended for his role in the fight.
“We are aware of the video, and have been in contact with Taylor and the league about the incident,” they said. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
