The whole album was done. He did everything. He produced it.”

According to Suge, Dr. Dre attached his name to many of the album’s Daz-produced tracks.

“So when it was time to come out, the streets said, well, they want Andre to be on it,” Suge shared. “And Andre said, ‘I want to be on there.’ So Andre went to Daz and said, ‘Look man, let me say it was produced by me, and put my name on it. You’ll get paid, but let me be the one who produced it.’”

On Monday, Daz refuted Suge’s comments in a video shared with TMZ, as he blasted Knight for handling Death Row’s business dealings in a “shady” manner and “just covering shit up.”

“Hey—Dr. Dre is the best producer in the motherfucking world,” Daz said. “I did not have nothing to do with that [Doggystyle]. As Barnes revealed not long after the alleged incident happened, and has reiterated numerous times throughout the years, Dre assaulted her at a record release party in Hollywood in January 1991 after she hosted an episode of Pump It Up! that focused on the tension between Dre’s group N.W.A. and Ice Cube, who left the group in 1989.

“Everybody wants to separate the art from the artist, and sometimes that’s just not possible. Most people without a knowledge of [Dr. Dre’s] history are going to say, ‘Oh, he must deserve that. He must be such a great person for them to put an award in his name.’ But they named this award after an abuser,” she told the magazine. “It wasn’t just a one or two-time thing; these are choices. The first time, it’s maybe a mistake. The second time, okay. The third time, it’s a choice. I’m not saying he is the same person now, though. I don’t know. I’m not around him anymore. I haven’t talked to him. But to name an award after someone with that type of history in the music industry, you might as well call it the ‘Ike Turner Award.'”

Barnes described the Grammys’ hip-hop tribute as “beautiful,” but lamented how she couldn’t be in the same space as Dre. “He said it himself in the documentary The Defiant Ones: I’m a ‘blemish’ on who he is as a man. Well, what do you do with a blemish? There’s a whole industry created—skincare lines and vitamins and rituals—to get rid of blemishes,” she continued. “And, in a sense, there’s a whole network to keep me hidden.”

Despite her place in hip-hop culture as a prominent journalist at the forefront of hip-hop’s boom in the early ‘90s, Barnes has been unable to remain an active participant in its culture. “I shouldn’t have to suffer by not being able to exist in a space and in a culture that not only did I grow up in but that I contributed to in a major way,” she said. “Is this about his feelings? Is this about his legacy? Or is it about ego and toxic masculinity? What is it about? My whole history has been erased—as an artist, as a music journalist, and as a television host.”

It’s not just the Grammys that haven’t supported or heard her, though, as Barnes stressed that the hip-hop community has failed to support her. “When I think of what atonement looks like for Dre and me, I think of a missed opportunity where we could have sat down together on camera and hashed it out. I think that would’ve begun a journey of healing; he’s coming face to face with me, and I’m coming face to face with him,” she said. “I’ve put out the olive branch. Black women and grace, you know how we are. It wasn’t accepted.”

Barnes concluded by stating that she’s been able to get herself out of homelessness after being unhoused for three years, but it hasn’t been easy. “I’m finally getting my feet wet again, back in the game as a journalist,” she said. “I’m a little rusty, but it’s getting better. The more I do it, the better I’ll feel—confident again.”

In her description of the encounter with Dre in 1991, Barnes said that he dragged her by her hair and smashed her face into a wall. He allegedly kicked her while she was on the ground, and stomped on her fingers. In a statement shared with the New York Times in 2015, Dre apologized but did not directly name Barnes.

Read the full Rolling Stone piece here.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Dr. Dre’s Classic Debut Album ‘The Chronic’ Returns to Streaming Services

SOURCE

albums

classic

dfp-music

dfp-music-hiphop

dfp-music-other

drdre

Featured

interscope

Music

News

streaming

the-chronic

tier-one

videos

The Chronic is back. In a statement, Dre shouted out Interscope Geffen A&M Vice Chairman Steve Berman and Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman John Janick for helping him revive the acclaimed 1992 project for a new era.

“I am thrilled to bring The Chronic home to its original distribution partner, Interscope Records,” Dre said. “Working alongside my longtime colleagues, Steve Berman and John Janick, to re-release the album and make it available to fans all over the world is a full circle moment for me.”

Launching in tandem with the re-release is a new collection of Chronic-inspired merch, which will be available via Interscope at this link.

Both Berman and Janick expressed gratitude to have The Chronic back under the Interscope wing in their own statements. Janick, specifically, highlighted the work as “one of the most important albums of all time.”

While the album was originally released in December 1992, this February 2023 re-release is being considered part of a 30th anniversary celebration.

In February of last year, Dre led a stacked group of headliners for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. Sources say the assets generate about $1 million annually, and will be sold in two separate deals; one with Shamrock Holdings and the other with Universal Music Group. The former is said to be looking to buy royalties from a couple of Dre’s solo projects, his share of N.W.A artist royalties, his producer royalties, and the writer’s share of the songs where he doesn’t own publishing; this may include his 1992 debut effort The Chronic, which is published by Sony Music.

Shamrock’s portion of the bundle reportedly comprises 75 to 90 percent of the package’s revenue, while UMG is expected to secure the remaining 10 to 25 percent. Insiders say the latter deal may include some publishing, Dre’s share of Kendrick Lamar releases, and the master recordings of The Chronic, which will likely revert from Death Row Entertainment to Dre sometime in August. However, sources have said Snoop Dogg—who purchased the Death Row imprint in early 2022—may try to convince Dre. to keep the project on the label.

Billboard says the offered assets don’t include Dre’s ownership stake in Aftermath.

The deals were reportedly shopped by Dre’s longtime attorney Peter Paterno. Though the sellers initially sought a total of $250 million, sources told TMZ the collective selling price was still “tens of millions of dollars higher than the $200 million” that Billboard reported.

Dr. Dre, UMG, and Shamrock have yet to publicly comment on the deals.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Cole Bennett on Mike Tyson Offering Him Shrooms During Eminem Shoot

SOURCE

cole-bennett

dfp-food

dfp-food-other

dfp-music

dfp-music-hiphop

dfp-music-other

drdre

eminem

Featured

hot-ones

hot-ones-show

hot-sauce

lyrical-lemonade

mike-tyson

Music

music-videos

News

sean-evans

tier-one

videos

Cole Bennett is the latest creative voice to be tasked with facing off against hot questions, and even hotter wings, on Hot Ones with host Sean Evans. Deep into the new Hot Ones, Bennett reflected on his directorial videography, including the competing bucket list moments that presented themselves on the set of the 2020 video for Eminem’s “Godzilla” track featuring the late Juice WRLD.

“This video was like no other,” Bennett said around the 8:25 mark in the video above. “It was one of those things. Like, growing up being a fan of hip-hop music, music videos, and just pop culture. I mean, I remember Eminem as being the biggest thing in the world so to get to work with him so closely and feel that energy and feel him be so ready to just log in all these hours and be so receptive to my ideas and my vision for things to, you know, a song that he had created was really, really cool.”

The video, which ultimately bagged a Video of the Year nomination at the VMAs, features cameos from Dr. Dre and Mike Tyson. According to Bennett, Tyson was kind enough to offer him shrooms during the shoot.

“Mike Tyson was off shrooms,” Bennett said. “He offered me some shrooms which, you know, was a bucket list moment for sure. But, you know, being on set and leading this vision was also a bucket list moment so I had to pick my poison there. And I’ve never had a Dre beat in my career.”

Game said Dre would enlist producers within his own circle, such as Scott Storch and Timbaland, to work with him on Documentary. “I can’t give Dre credit for the Just Blaze, but it’s a Dr. Dre executive produced album,” he said. “People just don’t understand the underlinings and how the business works.”

The Game mentioned that Dr. Dre’s involvement, or lack thereof, on The Documentary is exactly why he previously said on Drink Champs that Kanye West did more for his career in a two-week span than Dre ever did.

Before getting into his situation with Dr. Dre, Game wanted to make it clear he’s only telling his side of the story, and not taking shots. “I’m never shooting shots at Dre, I’m only telling my story. And, my bad if you’re in it, but you’re in it,” he explained.

He continued, “Yeah, Dr. Dre signed me to Aftermath, but he wasn’t pressed to put my album out. That was 50 coming in, like, ‘Yeah, he dope as fuck, I want him in G-Unit,’ and Jimmy Iovine thought that was a good idea too. So, they put me in G-Unit, but I did not want to be in G-Unit. So that’s why I’m not on a G-Unit album, or you didn’t see me in my career with the group when you saw the group. I was just that kinda official, unofficial member.”

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Snoop Dogg Working With Dr. Dre on ‘Missionary’ Album

SOURCE

death-row

death-row-records

dfp-music

dfp-music-hiphop

drdre

Featured

Music

new-albums

new-music

News

snoop-dogg

tier-one

It’s confirmed. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast, Snoop spoke about his bond with Dre and the evolution of their symbiotic relationship. After highlighting their early collaborations, the West Coast legend revealed he and Dre had started working on a full-length album over the summer.

“You’re the first one to hear this: Me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months, and it’ll be done in November,” he told Smith (34:50). “And it’s produced by Dr. Dre. It’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.

“Why that name?” the host asked.

“[Because] the first album was Doggystyle,” Snoop responded.

Rumors of a Snoop and Dre joint effort began circulating earlier this year, after the two were spotted in the studio with figures like Saweetie, EPMD’s Erick Sermon, and Eminem.

Snoop went on to tease the effort in a number of interviews with outlets like Rap Radar and ET Online; but he remained tight-lipped on what he and Dre had in store.

“We’re cooking up a little something,” he told the latter publication. “I don’t wanna talk about it too much, but we’re back together again. It’s been 30 years since we worked on a record, and we’re doing something, we’re working on something.”

After years with N.W.A., Dre kicked off his solo career with his 1992 single “Deep Cover,” which marked his first collaboration with Snoop. They then joined forces on Dre’s debut album, The Chronic, before teaming up on the aforementioned Doggystyle. Since then, Snoop and Dre have established themselves as one of hip-hop’s most prolific and powerful duo.

Earlier this year, the two reunited for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show along with Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and more. Snoop spoke about the performance during his sit-down with Smith. The host said he enjoyed the event, but wished Snoop and performed “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?”

“It wasn’t my show. It was Dr. Dre’s. I was there to be the co-pilot …” the rapper replied. “It was only 12 minutes of performance between Dr. Dre’s catalog, Snoop Dogg’s catalog, 50 Cent’s catalog, Mary J’s catalog, and Kendrick’s—and Eminem’s.”

You can check out the full interview below.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Dr. Dre Offers Super Bowl Halftime Show Advice to Rihanna

SOURCE

dfp-music

dfp-music-pop

dfp-sports

dfp-sports-football

drdre

Featured

halftime

Music

News

rihanna

Dr. Dre, the mastermind behind the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, shared a few words of advice for next year’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show performer, Rihanna. “Put the right people around you, and have fun,” Dre told Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, according to Billboard. “That’s basically what it is, making sure you have the right […]

“That’s basically what it is, making sure you have the right creative people around you. She might want to look into some of the people that we used to do our show.”

Rihanna took to Instagram earlier today to confirm reports that she will be headlining the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show.

“Oh, my god,” Dre said in response to the announcement. “Let me tell you something, man. I actually just got the news that Rihanna’s going to do it, and I’m a super fan of Rihanna. I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do.”

“I just like her and what she does, and her get down, and how she approaches her artistry and the whole nine. It’s fantastic,” he added. “She has the opportunity to really blow us away. I know we set the bar extremely high.”

Dre opened up about being nervous ahead of his own performance, which included appearances by Snoop Dogg, Mary J. So it’s the preparation and making sure you have the right people around you. All of these people came through for me, and everybody was extremely enthusiastic about the show. We had a good time, although it’s a lot of things and a lot of people you have to depend on.”

“You’re talking about at least 3,000 people that you have to depend on to get this show right for 13 minutes. So it is an extreme amount of pressure, but it’s fun at the same time,” he continued. “When it’s done, it’s like goosebumps, bro. I got goosebumps, especially from the reaction that we got from the show, and especially being able to do the show with all of my friends.”

Super Bowl LVII is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2023.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

The Game Explains Why He Came for Eminem With “The Black Slim Shady”

SOURCE

50-cent

beef

dfp-music

dfp-music-hiphop

diss

drdre

elliott-wilson

eminem

Featured

jay-z

Music

News

the-game

tier-one

In an interview on the Rap Radar podcast, The Game addressed his recent 10-minute Eminem diss track “The Black Slim Shady.” Speaking with Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller, the 42-year-old clarified that he wanted to come for Em, 49, in a fun and competitive manner because few rappers feel up to the challenge. “Just because nobody really does, number one,” he […]

In an interview on the Rap Radar podcast, The Game addressed his recent 10-minute Eminem diss track “The Black Slim Shady.”

Speaking with Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller, the 42-year-old clarified that he wanted to come for Em, 49, in a fun and competitive manner because few rappers feel up to the challenge. “Just because nobody really does, number one,” he replied when asked about his motives near the 43-minute point in the interview. “Number two, I pissed off a lot of people with that song, you know Em got a lot of stans. But as far as it being personal, it’s not personal.”

As the song makes clear with its many references to Em’s discography, from his acclaimed material to his more divisive later output, Game stressed he came up on Em’s music too. “I remember the first time that ‘My Name Is’ came out. I was, like, ‘whoa’-ed by it. I felt the same feeling when I heard that, that I felt when I heard ‘Juicy’ from B.I.G. the first time. … I always fucked with Em,” he said.

The Game continued, “I think me and 50’s fallout made him choose a side and he wasn’t doing the shit that I did. He was like, ‘I’m going with 50. Fuck you n***as.’ But I just felt like I had some emotions, a little bit, about Super Bowl shit and all of that. And that’s Dre’s boy, and Dre don’t rap. So it’s like, if I wanna have a conversation with Dre or I’m mad at Dre, let me poke shots at Eminem. And 50 can’t out-rap me, he’s doing his TV thing and more power to him, the shows are great. But as far as rap shit, I got that locked. So the only person I could rap with, or try to poke the bear and see if he really want to go there, is Em.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, he gave some praise to Jay-Z for helping him clear various samples for his recent album Drillmatic – Heart vs. Mind. Game noted that he wasn’t sure if the samples would get cleared because of their “tricky past,” but came to the realization that Hov is aware he’s matured a lot since shots were fired.

“I think at this point he knows that I have grown and I have matured,” Game said. “And also, of course, he has grown. … And his wisdom, you know, just by far is…it’s Hov, man, you know what I’m saying?”

Listen to the full episode of Rap Radar below with Spotify, or via Apple here.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Stream DJ Khaled’s New Album ‘God Did’ f/ Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye, and More

SOURCE

21-savage

city-girls

collaborations

dfp-music

dfp-music-hiphop

DJ

dj-khaled

drake

drdre

eminem

Featured

future

gunna

jay-z

juice-wrld

kanye-west

kodak-black

latto

lil-baby

lil-wayne

Music

new-music

News

producers

rick-ross

roddy-ricch

sza

tier-one

travis-scott

After weeks of anticipation stoked by motivational speeches galore, DJ Khaled’s 13th studio album God Did has finally arrived, laced with features from Jay-Z, Kanye West, Drake (twice), Lil Baby (also twice), SZA, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 21 Savage, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Gunna, City Girls, Kodak Black, Future, Jadakiss, Juice WRLD, Latto, Roddy Ricch, Buju Banton, Vory, and more, including production by […]

After weeks of anticipation stoked by motivational speeches galore, DJ Khaled’s 13th studio album God Did has finally arrived, laced with features from Jay-Z, Kanye West, Drake (twice), Lil Baby (also twice), SZA, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 21 Savage, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Gunna, City Girls, Kodak Black, Future, Jadakiss, Juice WRLD, Latto, Roddy Ricch, Buju Banton, Vory, and more, including production by Dr. Dre.

Ahead of the “Staying Alive”-fueled release, Khaled shared some words of encouragement that he received from Diddy supporting his work.

Rumors have been swirling around the verses on DJ Khaled’s album, specifically how Jay-Z purportedly delivered some of the best bars of his career on the title track, which also includes Rozay, Weezy, John Legend, and Fridayy and comes in at No. 2 after the Drizzy-featuring opener.
