<p>As part of an effort to inspire more people to donate blood, the American Red Cross is launching a program featuring donated <a target="_blank" href="http://complex.com/tag/designers" rel="noopener">designs</a> from a trio of <a target="_blank" href="http://complex.com/style" rel="noopener">familiar names</a>.</p>
<p>The program, which is launching in <a target="_blank" href="http://complex.com/tag/new-york" rel="noopener">New York</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://complex.com/tag/los-angeles" rel="noopener">Los Angeles</a>, is being billed as the Drop for Drop campaign. Enlisted for the effort are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/style/best-style-releasess-new-york-sunshine-dickies-supreme-antihero-pharrell-cpfm/" rel="noopener">New York Sunshine</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/style/best-style-releases-awake-ny-crocs-eric-emanuel-new-era-dime/" rel="noopener">Eric Emanuel</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/style/warren-lotas-mitchell-and-ness-nfl-team-up-collection-2022-draft" rel="noopener">Warren Lotas</a>. Each have contributed designs (as seen below) for merch that will be given free of charge to those who donate blood, either from Aug. 4-5 in New York City or in Los Angeles on Aug. 11.</p>
<p>To make an appointment (upon completion of which you will receive one piece of exclusive merch), <a target="_blank" href="https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/dlp/drop.html" rel="noopener">hit this link</a>. A limited amount of walk-up appointments will also be available.</p>
<p>“We’re seeing a concerning decrease in blood donations causing the blood supply to drop<br />&#013;<br />
nearly 20% in recent weeks. While the summer months are historically a challenging time to<br />&#013;<br />
engage donors— especially younger donors— the pandemic has caused a steep decline in<br />&#013;<br />
donors between the ages of 18 and 24.” Selma Bouhl, who is VP, Marketing Strategy &amp; Creative<br />&#013;<br />
Services at American Red Cross, said in a press release that was shared with Complex.</p>

<p>It all started with some pickles in 2020 at Hester Street Fair in Manhattan. </p>
<p>Nolita Dirtbag, who would like to remain anonymous, would make bootleg stickers mimicking logos from popular New York-based establishments and pass them out along with jars of homemade pickles. One was a riff on Aimé Leon Dore’s logo with an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CRCeybashJn/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Imma Pee On the Floor”</a> sticker. The cheeky nods to some of the city’s biggest brands was a subtle way for the 25-year-old to set his spears apart and connect the packaging to his interest in streetwear. But in July 2021, he decided to take his jokes to Instagram and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/nolitadirtbag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nolita Dirtbag</a> was born.</p>
<p>“I’ve been making ridiculous memes my whole life. I was born on the internet, growing up on Reddit and playing Xbox,” says Nolita Dirtbag, who’s just as funny over the phone as he is on IG. Before answering a question about how he’s impacted Nolita, he responds with a joke saying, “I think it’s motivated more people to avoid it.” And when asked where he actually lives, he pokes fun at himself, saying, “I live in a cage in the basement of the ALD store.” It’s easy to see why he’s so good at trivializing Nolita and the crowd it draws.</p>
<p>For those unfamiliar, Nolita is a neighborhood within the Lower East Side of Manhattan. One of its blocks, Mulberry Street, has recently become a hub for fashionable millennials and Gen-Z’ers. It houses the outposts of popular brands like Aimé Leon Dore and Noah, as well eateries like Ruby’s, Upside Pizza, and Parm. It’s also become a hotbed for spotting trendy streetwear outfits that include <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CWYiSMDF3Kr/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carhartt double knee pants with paint splatters</a>, New Balance 550s, Arc’teryx jackets, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CS0CbHtFIRG/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trucker caps</a>. But Nolita Dirtbag doesn’t actually reside in the neighborhood his name derives from. He stays in Brooklyn, but grew up in a suburb outside of New York City. He made frequent summer trips growing up, but permanently relocated after graduating college. Nowadays, he spends time on blocks like Mulberry Street and the surrounding Dimes Square neighborhood three or so days a week to perform what he jokingly refers to as his, “research and development.” He picks up on people’s habits and uses it for the memes posted on his IG account. Since starting the page, he’s found himself taking note of specific things that he may have overlooked beforehand. </p>
<p>“If I see a certain dude in double knees wearing JJJJound shoes carrying a plant back to his apartment, my mind starts running a bit. What is this guy doing? Where is he eating? I’m definitely thinking about it a lot more,” he tells Complex.</p>

<p><a target="_blank" href="https://complex.com/tag/eric-emanuel" rel="noopener">Eric Emanuel</a> is doing his part to assist the next generation of talent. </p>
<p>In collaboration with the Fashion Scholarship Fund, Emanuel has launched a limited edition capsule of eye-catching athletic shorts co-designed by three FSF scholars: Jordan Bigelow, Rasheed Peters, and Mia Campolo. Each designer submitted a unique and bold print as part of the 2021 FSF x Eric Emanuel Design Challenge. Emanuel hand-selected the three winning graphics, which ultimately comprised the EE x FSF shorts capsule.</p>

<p>Proceeds from the sales of the garments, which reportedly sold out in minutes, will benefit the FSF—a nonprofit that prepares students for careers in the fashion industry.</p>
<p>“I am humbled and excited by the opportunity to aid the next generation of fashion talent,” Emanuel said in a press release. “Education is important to me – especially because my mother is a teacher – so if I can use my platform to support young talent while they pursue a degree, that means the world to me. I love what the FSF is doing, and I was incredibly impressed by and grateful for the turn-out of talented scholars who applied for our challenge. The three winners – Jordan, Rasheed and Mia – designed three amazing prints that stood out to me immediately. It was an honor to bring their visions to life for my EE community.” </p>

<p>As part of his partnership with FSF, Emanuel has donated $100,000 to the organization. That money will fund 10 scholarships for the FSF class of 2022, and will provide a $5,000 creative stipend to the three winners of the FSF x Eric Emanuel Design Challenge.</p>
<p>“Through this experience, I proved to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to, and I am so thankful to Eric Emanuel and FSF for the opportunity,” said Bigelow, FSF Class of 2021. “The process of working with Eric has been life changing. During the journey, I learned that sometimes the details I am the most worried about are the same details that set me apart. Additionally, I admire the fact that Eric works with local suppliers to make his vision happen. That’s something I want to take with me into my own design and business endeavors.”</p>

<p>Every Wednesday afternoon, Complex Style usually publishes a post that highlights a series of new items releasing from our favorite brands. It is a list meant to help streetwear and fashion fans decide how to spend their money or update their closet with the latest drops. But in the wake up of the ongoing protests around the country surrounding racial injustice and the senseless killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other black men and women, we feel that this is not the time to ask our readers to spend hundreds of dollars on something that feels rather trivial. There are much more important things happening around us that we need to give attention to.</p>
<p>Many brands have decided to do more than simply post a message to their social media profile. Some have donated directly to the cause, while others have released special products to source funding. Check out some of the brands using their platform to aid the cause below.</p>
<p>If you would rather simply donate directly, we encourage everyone to use their &#8220;new clothes&#8221; budgets to support one of the various bail funds and organizations across the country that are aiding the front lines during this time. <p>Freshjive has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.freshjive.com/collections/tops/products/black-is-not-a-crime-tee-black?variant=21590530195545" rel="noopener noreferrer">reissued its &#8220;Black Is Not a Crime&#8221; graphic T-shirt</a>. All proceeds are being donated to the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a nonprofit committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenge racial and economic justice, and to protect basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.</p>

<p>This Miami skate brand has decided to promote a message we should all easily be able to get behind. Short. Sweet. To the point. <a target="_blank" href="https://andrewdowntown.com/products/fuck-racism-tee-white" rel="noopener noreferrer">&#8220;Fuck Racism.&#8221;</a> All proceeds will be donated to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/fempowerbailout/" rel="noopener noreferrer">(F)empower Community Bond Fund</a>.</p>
<h2>Brain Dead</h2>
<p><a target="_blank" href="https://wearebraindead.com/collections/all/products/blood-orange-brain-dead-weareone-t-shirt-black" rel="noopener noreferrer">Brain Dead</a> has teamed up with Blood Orange&#8217;s Devonté Hynes to release a special graphic T-shirt. Proceeds will be split between the Movement 4 Black Lives (<a target="_blank" href="https://m4bl.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">M4BL</a>) and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.lgbtqfund.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">LGBTQ Fund</a>. &#8220;If You Love Black Culture, Protect Black Lives.&#8221;</p>
<h2>Advisory Board Crystals</h2>
<p><a target="_blank" href="https://advisoryboardcrystals.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Advisory Board Crystals</a> has released this graphic T-shirt in three colorways. Each color will see proceeds donated to one of three causes: Campaign Zero (black), Reclaim the Block (white), or the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (grey). Each shows side-by-side images of Minnesota, one of its outdoor scenery and the other of the city of Minneapolis during protest along with the phrase &#8220;Such a pretty planet, such an ugly world,&#8221; as well as a glittered overlay of a broken apart United States. The back reads, &#8220;how much time do you want for your progress?&#8221;</p>

<h2>Euphoric Supply</h2>
<p>Instagram creator <a target="_blank" href="https://euphoricsupply.com/products/justice-tee" rel="noopener noreferrer">Euphoric Supply</a> is selling T-shirts bearing an original sketch, a simple &#8220;fuck you&#8221; to racism, hatred, police brutality, and injustice. 100 percent of profits are being donated to the ACLU of Minnesota. </p>
<h2>Checks N Balances</h2>
<p><a target="_blank" href="https://checksnbalances.bigcartel.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Checks N Balances</a> is currently selling two T-shirts with all proceeds being donated to the National Bail Out and Black Lives Matter. One design is a tribute to George Floyd and displays his face above the words &#8220;I Can&#8217;t Breathe.&#8221; The other displays a photo of the Minneapolis 3rd Precinct ablaze and promotes the message of peace and equality &#8220;By Any Means Necessary.&#8221;</p>
<h2>Mota</h2>
<p>This New York-based brand has created <a target="_blank" href="https://www.motanewyork.com/ss20t1" rel="noopener noreferrer">a special T-shirt</a> with all proceeds benefiting the Estate of George Floyd. The front reads, &#8220;Don&#8217;t Trust the Government,&#8221; while &#8220;In memory and support of George Floyd&#8221; has bee printed across the back right shoulder. </p>

<h2>Canal</h2>
<p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.canallimited.com/shop/canalboyz-n-the-hood-tee-black" rel="noopener noreferrer">Canal</a>, a New York City skate brand, has created a new logo T-shirt that shows its name written in the same font famously linked to <em>Boyz n the Hood</em>. &#8220;No Justice. No Peace&#8221; is written across the back. All proceeds are being donated to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.joincampaignzero.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Campaign Zero</a>, a police reform program started by Black Lives Matter activists in 2015.</p>
<h2>Much More</h2>
<p>Rick Dove&#8217;s <a target="_blank" href="https://muchmorebyrick.com/SHOP" rel="noopener noreferrer">Much More</a> will be releasing a T-shirt this Friday inspired by former Black Panther activist Assata Shakur. 60 percent of the proceeds will be split between the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.blackvisionsmn.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Black Visions Collective</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://brotherhoodcrusade.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Brotherhood Crusade</a>.</p>

<p>Freddie Gibbs recently released a collaborative project with producer The Alchemist entitled <em>Alfredo</em>. This <a target="_blank" href="https://www.alfredo.restaurant/products/670686-justice-tee" rel="noopener noreferrer">piece of merch</a> celebrating its release displays a lyric from the track &#8220;Scottie Beam&#8221; that reads, &#8220;My execution might be televised.&#8221; All proceeds from sales of this design will be split between the families of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor. <p>NBA All Star Weekend has become one of the biggest moments of the year for limited sneaker releases. But as it continues to grow even more, the festivities have also become a premier destination for clothing drops as well. Given the heavy amout of creatives from this year&#8217;s host city of Chicago, 2020 will be no different.</p>
<p>Fans can look forward to exclusive product from Don C and Levi&#8217;s, Joe Freshgoods and New Balance, <a target="_self" href="https://www.complex.com/tag/virgil-abloh" rel="noopener noreferrer">Virgil Abloh</a> and Jordan Brand, RSVP Gallery, Eric Emanuel, Mitchell and Ness, Rhude&#8217;s <a target="_self" href="https://www.complex.com/tag/rhuigi-villasenor" rel="noopener noreferrer">Rhuigi Villaseñor</a>, and more. Pieces will include tie-dye hoodies and long sleeve T-shirts by artist Cody Hudson, graphic T-shirts by Drew the Barber emblazoned with &#8217;80s Chicago transit tokens, and vibrant hoodies from the videographers at Lyrical Lemonade. Other apparel will be available from local designer Sheila Rashid, Chance the Rapper&#8217;s SocialWorks, local boutique SucceZZ, and four student designers selected from the Jordan Wings program. The highlight for many will be a capsule designed by Virgil Abloh to match his highly-anticipated Air Jordan V.</p>

<p>Noah is launching the first pieces from its Spring/Summer 2020 collection online this Thursday after an exclusive in-store release earlier this month. Items include colorful striped rugby shirts, graphic T-shirts with fruit on the chest, puffer vests, paisley trousers, nylon shorts, accessories, and more. </p>

<p>Prior to Bodega opening up its Boston shop in 2006, the store’s co-founder, Oliver Mak, says in the early 2000’s Diesel influenced what Bodega would come to be.  </p>
<p>“Pretty much all of my friends who are musicians or artists were fed by or got free jeans form the Diesel shop in Boston from around 2001 to 2004,” says Mak. “They informed a lot of music and art that was happening when we were still gestating and ideating Bodega. They were the brand doing a lot of culture stuff.” </p>
<p>Mak says this why Bodega signed on to work with Diesel—it’s the first time Bodega has brought its bodega store concept, which has been copied by larger retailers and brands over the years, into someone else’s retail space. Named The Unofficial Basel Gift Shop, which is located in the Miami Design District at 120 NE 40th Street, the store sits on the same block as an Alchemist pop-up, and Hello, Miami, a retail activation from Colette’s Sarah Andelman.</p>

<p>“It&#8217;s hard to not know them,” says Stefano Rosso, the chief executive officer of Diesel North America, when asked about how he discovered Bodega. “They are really one of the coolest retail environments in the United States and we thought they could be the perfect partner for us to do something interesting for our younger consumers.”</p>

<p>Rosso says this is a part of an ongoing White Box experiential retail series that Diesel has run over the past year. Miami is Diesel’s third major hub in the U.S., after New York and Los Angeles, and Rosso says opening during Art Basel, which also included store openings from <a href="https://www.complex.com/style/2019/12/bape-miami-store-opening-collection" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">A Bathing Ape</a>, and <a href="https://www.complex.com/style/2019/12/lebron-james-unknwn-miami-store-photos" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">Unkwn</a>, a sneaker and streetwear store owned by LeBron James, made sense. </p>
<p>Diesel is speaking directly  to that market with this space, which is stocked with pieces from Bodega’s private label that includes some T-shirts exclusive to Miami, product from the Diesel Red Tag x A-COLD-WALL* capsule collection, which will be available to purchase on Dec. 7, a line of stonewashed basketball shorts designed by  Eric Emanuel, and limited edition product from Miracle Seltzer, Ekua Ceramics, Eunbi Ceramics, Putpet, Jane Park, Puebco, Krink, Mr. Green, PRMTVO, and MYAR. Bodega’s collaboration with Dr. Martens will also be available. </p>

<p>But beyond product, Rosso says it’s important to provide an experience with programming and customization. </p>
<p>“This type of exercise is more of a communication and marketing tool than anything else,” says Rosso. “Today, customers don&#8217;t really expect to go to a store to see simply product. They want to have an experience. So we try to deliver an experiential moment where you find out the brand is there, but it&#8217;s almost the last step of your journey.”</p>

<p>On Friday and Saturday, the first 20 people who visit the store can customize a Diesel denim jacket—in a faux dry cleaners space—for free. Visitors can also screen print T-shirts with graphics provided by LQQK Studios, a print studio based in Brooklyn. Bodega has brought in artists from Isla Berlin, a nail shop based in Germany, to do complimentary nail art and tooth gems, and free tattoos will be provided by Rustle Tattoos. This programming will take place through Saturday. In the midst of all this will be Bodega’s Pirate Radio Sessions that will feature sets from people like Tyler Kpakpo, Just Dimy, and Gianni Lee. </p>
<p>Diesel is working hard to reach customers in a variety of ways. The day before the pop-up opened, Renzo Rosso, Diesel’s founder and president of the OTB Group, which recently invested in Amiri, and Andrea Rosso, creative director of Diesel Licenses, fielded questions about Diesel Living’s latest project, condominiums in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood that are outfited with Diesel home products and furniture from its licensing partnerships. The building is designed by Zyschovich Architects and developed by Bel Invest Group, an international real estate developer.</p>

<p>“It&#8217;s the most difficult thing,” says Stefano when asked about trying to balance niche initiatives with more mass ones. “You can do it when you are true to yourselves and your values as a brand and you don&#8217;t try to overexpose yourself in a way that doesn&#8217;t make sense. If we don&#8217;t feel 100 percent sure about the collaboration we don’t do it.”</p>
<p>Bodega is also working on balancing growth with remaining cool. After only operating a store in Boston for over 10 years, they opened a Los Angeles store in 2018, and according to Mak, there are plans to open another store in an undisclosed location soon. </p>
<p>“It&#8217;s a continual, endless upward trajectory and I cannot believe we get to be apart of,” says Mak about the growth of streetwear. “For it to be fully adopted in the highest levels of fashion and keep mutating while maintaining its essence of rebellion and counterculture, and to see people we respect be put in positions of power? That’s the whole point.”</p>
