I was like, I’m going to make beats that are like this and then I’m going to try and get some artists on it. And that’s how I tend to do things with dance music. So I approached it in the same way and I was like, I’ll just make beats, except they’ll sound like this, but they’ll still clearly be electronic beats. Halsey made the claim in a May 22 TikTok video, in which they confirmed the song and its official video were already completed. The singer-songwriter told fans they wanted to drop the material ASAP, but was told it wouldn’t be released without a viral moment to promote it.</p> <p>“I’ve been in this industry for 8 years and I’ve sold over 165 million records and my record company is saying that I can’t release [the song] unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok,” Halsey wrote. “Everything is marketing. And they are doing this to basically every artist these days. U just wanna release music, man. And I deserve better. TBH, I’m tired.”</p> <p>Shortly after, Capitol Records released a statement expressing their support for Halsey and emphasizing the importance of having an “open dialogue.” The label then confirmed “So Good” would arrive on June 9.</p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>The track is reportedly inspired by Halsey’s relationship with Alev Aydin, who also directed the “So Good” video. Halsey explained they put a lot of thought into extending their family, and eventually became convinced it was the right time to do so.</p> <p>“I’m 26, and I tried very hard for this pregnancy and it was like, I’m financially independent, I’m pretty far along in my career, it feels like the right time for me to do it. And I got treated like a teen mom a lot of the times,” Halsey said. “Where people were like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re so young, and you have so much to do in your career, and you’re not married, and you’re this.’ “So fuck ’em,” they concluded. “I just was like, I’m going to do what I want to do. Spears pleaded with the judge to end the guardian oversight, which was first implemented in 2008 following her public breakdown. She told the court the conservatorship has essentially stripped her of personal freedom, as she has no control over her finances, medical decisions, or how she spends time with her boyfriend.</p> <p>One of the most unsettling of the testimony was when Spears claimed she was given lithium against her will, and was unable to expand her family because she was prohibited from removing her IUD.</p> <p>“I would like to get married and have a baby,” Spears said. “But this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it (the IUD) out because they don’t want me to have children … This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life.”</p> <p>Shortly after the hearing, many celebrities took to social media to express their support for Spears. Some shared words of encouragement, while others called on the court to terminate the conservatorship, which is led by her father, Jamie Spears. As a result several big names are listed in the suit, including <a target="_blank" href="http://www.complex.com/tag/benny-blanco" rel="noopener">Benny Blanco</a>, <a href="https://www.complex.com/tag/halsey" target="_self" rel="noopener">Halsey</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.complex.com/tag/khalid" rel="noopener">Khalid</a>. Inspired by Halsey’s experience as a self-taught makeup artist, the brand is set to launch with three different lines. Light Lock, Matte, and Shadowstick each promise to offer distinctive looks, and there will be a total of 10 product categories. Additionally, about-face’s products are entirely vegan, and will range from $17 to $32.</p> <p>“Makeup is an art and art is about happy accidents, not any one ideal of perfection,” said Halsey of the new endeavor. “I always feel the most free when I am creating looks without following any rules. The beauty industry has norms, but I want to encourage people to challenge those standards and allow things to be imperfect and fun.”</p> <p>Upon announcing about-face on Twitter, Halsey thanked her fans for being as excited as she is. “I’ve been doing makeup for myself most of my career,” she wrote. “I am a student and a lover and every detail of this from shade names, to product ingredients, to packaging was me. The documents state Halsey became “fearful of life” and hired a private investigator in early October to gather information on the alleged stalker. The PI reportedly received a voicemail from one of Halsey’s neighbors, who claimed “a young gentleman has stopped at his residence looking for [Halsey], under the impression that she lives at his residence. Additionally, the same male has stopped by 4 or 5 times since September this year and had called LAPD a few times.”</p> <p>The neighbor also reportedly recalled a time when the man showed up to his home with a guitar demanding to speak to Halsey, legal name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. After he was informed that Halsey did not live there, the fan allegedly smashed his guitar on the ground and left a netbook that he wanted to give Halsey.</p> <p>After weeks of investigation, which included a review of the man’s social media accounts, the PI concluded the fan was likely fresh out of a psychiatric ward.</p> <section class="suitcase-ad"/> <p>The restraining order will reportedly expire Nov. 16 when Halsey and the unidentified fan are scheduled to appear in court.
