Cudder—who is credited under his legal name, Scott Mescudi—plays the father of lead character Caleb Channing, a boy who sets out to find the titular crater with his friends.</p> <p>The trailer begins with Cudi speaking about the mysterious location before he encourages his son to explore it.</p> <p>“You were born here, raised here. This dome is the only world you’ve ever known,” he tells Caleb while looking at a map. “There’s a place just off past the eastern ridge, right there. You’ll see. Get out there. To the crater.”</p> <p>The preview then shows Caleb and his pals preparing for the adventure, and cuts to action-packed scenes from their road trip, which includes meteor showers, rover rides, and a game of moon rock baseball.</p> <p>“The most important thing to remember: it’s not just about where you’re going, it’s about how you get there, the people you get there with,” Cudi says. “You’re never quite the same as you were when you began.”</p> <p>The PG-rated film is directed by Kyle Patrick (<em>Easier with Practice, C.O.G., The Stanford Prison Experiment</em>) with a script by John Griffin (<em>The Twilight Zone</em>). It also stars Bill Barratt, Mckenna Grace, Orson Hong, and Thomas Boyce.</p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>On Twitter, Cudi wrote, “Im so happy and excited about this one yall. Cudi—born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi—<a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/style/kid-cudi-teases-2023-plans-motr-line-paris-fashion-week-sneakers" rel="noopener">teased the event back in December</a>, confirming the inaugural range would deliver unisex pieces that pushed “the boundaries of fashion.”</p> </p> <p>Cudi said he wanted to start his own fashion line about eight years ago, but abandoned the endeavor after becoming “discouraged” by the process. However, he revisited the idea in 2021, when he began conceptualizing a sci-fi film project. That same year, Cudi lost his good and previous collaborator Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White and the artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s. </p> <p>“There is no way I could have designed this collection without thinking about him every single fucking day,” Cudi told <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.vogue.com/article/kid-cudi-debut-collection-paris-members-of-the-rage" rel="noopener">Vogue</a></em> about the late creative. “Every day, it was like, ‘What would Virgil do? Items included everything from distressed polos and puffer vests to long tutu skirts and motorcycle jackets to Kurt Cobain-inspired knitwear and shaggy coats that nod to Cudi’s dog. I’m really kinda nervous, I’m not gonna lie.”</p> <p>Given Cudi’s status as a leading multi-hyphenate, it’s no surprise the resulting episode saw him touching on a wide variety of sauce-assisted topics, including the role the late <a target="_blank" href="http://complex.com/tag/virgil-abloh" rel="noopener">Virgil Abloh</a> played in the carefully considered wardrobe decisions behind the TV event <em>Entergalactic</em>.</p> <p>“I put it all on him,” Cudi said of Abloh’s involvement with the special, which is now available on Netflix. “I really went into this knowing that I wanted the characters to be fresh. I didn’t want it to be like, you know, a typical animated show where you see one character wearing the same thing every episode. Virgil just came through and put his magic sauce on it and just made wardrobe for each character that matched their personality. I was so happy.”</p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>Deeper into his discussion with Evans, Cudi was asked to reveal the best audition tip he’s received from his pal Timothée Chalamet, who’s soon set to be seen in <em>We Are Who We Are</em> director Luca Guadagnino’s latest film <a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/pop-culture/timothee-chalamet-gets-candid-about-social-media-impact-says-societal-collapse-is-in-the-air" rel="noopener"><em>Bones and All</em></a>.</p> <p>“I think I asked him about crying on camera once,” Cudi said. “You know, I’ve given him audition tapes that I’ve done before and I’m just like, ‘Yo man, shoot me straight’ and he’s always like, ‘Oh it’s good, it’s good.’ I don’t know. He could be lying to me. But he’s always very supportive and I know Timmy is a fan of me for music but I think he’s a fan of me as an actor, as well.”</p> <p>Cudi also shared more thoughts on his <a target="_blank" href="https://www.complex.com/music/kid-cudi-no-more-albums-after-entergalactic" rel="noopener">previously reported plans</a> of bringing certain aspects of his art to a close, telling Evans he feels he’s “kinda nearing the end on all things Kid Cudi.” The subject came up after Evans broached the topic of aging in hip-hop and naming Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Nas as people who have done so successfully. </p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>“I feel like, I don’t have what they have,” Cudi said. “I just don’t know if I want to do… music, drop albums for too much longer.”</p> <p>Cudi then brought up his aspirations of becoming a kindergarten teacher. </p> <p>“I’m really curious to see what else I can do. I was thinking about this, this is like a wacky idea I had years ago,” he said. It would be cool to one day be a kindergarten teacher. Just do that for a couple years. When I’m like 50… infect the youth with that freshness. I think, closing the chapter on Kid Cudi.”</p> <p>His desire to move on from dropping albums and touring was something that actually led to <em>Entergalactic</em>, which he wanted to take a different approach with because he was “bored” of putting out more traditional releases. “I was like, ‘Man, I went into this wanting to do something epic and different.’ And now, that I’ve done that, I just… I’ve made a lot of music, man,” he continued. “I’ve said a lot and I have other desires, I have other things I want to do. And I do not see me never making music, I’ll always fuck around in the studio, or make something here and there. But, as far as getting in the studio and working on an album, and then going and touring it, I just don’t have it in me.”</p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>Cudi has steadily built an impressive filmography over the past few years, and has started to show up in more shows and movies. But acting isn’t the only reason he wants to slow down with music. “I have so many other things I want to invest my time into… I really want to spend more time with my daughter,” he said. “We’ve been kicking in a lot lately and I’ve been having more time and it’s good, she’s growing up, our relationship is super tight. It’s what I always dreamed of.”</p> <p>As for what he’s interested in doing next, he did tell Lowe that he wants to write some TV shows and movies. He also wants to produce more projects under his Mad Solar Productions banner, which served as one of the production companies on Ti West’s pair of 2022 horror films, <em>X</em> and <em>Pearl</em>.</p> <p>“I just want to focus on Mad Solar Productions and just get that shit out a little bit more,” he said. “And then, on the side, I got my clothing line that’s debuting in January, in Paris, during fashion week. So, I got those two things I’m really focused on and just designing and writing and that’s where I see myself headed.”</p> <section class="suitcase-ad" /> <p>Cudi has a lot of movies coming out on the horizon, including his directorial debut <em>Teddy</em>.
