So what does Metro Metro organizer Midway Group have planned for a follow-up? Last year’s headliner Lil Baby is back, along with Lil Wayne and Jack Harlow. Yeat, Coi Leray, Destroy Lonely, Nav, Metro Boomin, Murda Beatz, and more round out the lineup. There’s that, but also sometimes it’s about planning for the unexpected.

Drake’s appearance only came together in the final days leading up to the 2022 edition. Cardi nearly didn’t show after she pulled a “yesterday’s price is not today’s price.” Last year, after Young Thug was arrested weeks before his planned headlining set, the fest pivoted fast and brought 50 Cent to Montreal on a private jet.

Metro Metro organizers Olivier Primeau and Jonathan Marchitello, who also operate summer hotspot Beachclub and Latin music fest Fuego Fuego, are refreshingly candid about the chaos that inevitably swirls around a major festival. They know a rapper might get turned around at the border, so instead of dealing with it privately, they let the fans know that things may change at any time, but they’re constantly working the phones to ensure the party goes on.

This year, that includes Primeau having a business firebombed and shots fired at his home in the lead up to Metro Metro 2023. He conducted this interview with Complex Canada before the incidents, and he hasn’t spoken publicly since, only saying on Instagram that he’s taking “a step back and being less present publicly” until the situation is resolved.

On site, Metro Metro has revamped their Olympic Stadium site to deter fence jumpers—an issue last year—and give better sightlines.

Complex Canada met up with Metro Metro’s Primeau and Marchitello to talk about how Drake came together, 50 Cent’s jet, and competing with the big festivals.

What did you learn from the first two Metro Metros?
OP: The big question we’ve learned to deal with: Which artist is going to be there? That’s first. Last year, maybe two weeks before, we lost two of three headliners with Young Thug and Playboi Carti. It’s a lot of stress. You have to be sure they’re going to pass customs, which you never know.

People often thought you couldn’t have a rap festival in Canada because of the border? The first year you did it, pretty much everyone showed.
OP: In 2019, we were the first hip-hop festival of that size in Canada. Before Rolling Loud, and of course there’s OVO. We knew we were taking a risk, but I think we’ve done it right. In 2019 we started with Cardi B, just as she won the Grammy. Then last year was a super huge event for us with Drake showing up and 50 Cent instead of Young Thug. And I think we have a nice lineup this year.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Brycent Joins Lil Wayne & Ozuna-Backed Gaming Lifestyle Organization XSET

SOURCE

dfp-sports

dfp-sports-esports

esports

Featured

gaming

internet

lil-wayne

Music

News

ozuna

swae-lee

tee-grizzley

web3

young-money

Bryce “Brycent” Johnson has joined forces with the gaming lifestyle organization XSET. At the least, it’ll solidify me even more,” the 20-year-old told BET back in February. “It’s like the proof is all in the pudding throughout the album. I got a bunch of features on there from some good guys.”

Choppa went on to say the original Cottonwood didn’t reflect who he was as an artist, because he didn’t “put [his] best foot forward.” He’s convinced the new album will “redeem” him.

“I feel like I kind of messed up my breakout year because a lot of things got in my head, and by the end of the year, I was kind of in a slump,” he explained. “Cottonwood 2 is pretty much letting everybody know that it came back full circle for me. It’s giving me another chance with a breakout year and now it’s like how do I capitalize? How do I make this project the best foot forward? How do I redeem myself from the last one even though the last one’s gold?”

The project spans 22 tracks, including the hit single “Slut Me Out.” It also boasts appearances by Fivio Foreign (“Dope”), Kevin Gates (“Habits”), Rick Ross (“Cold Game”), and Lil Wayne, who assists on “Ain’t Gonna Answer,” which recently got a video stacked with references to Weezy, the Hot Boys, “Back That Azz Up,” and more vintage Cash Money easter eggs. Rounding out the features list are Polo G, G Herbo, Queen Naija, Lola Brooke, Modesty, and 2Rare.

You can listen to Cottonwood 2 on all major platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music below.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Watch J. He’s not been shy about sharing his appreciation for Em in the past, though, as he paid tribute to Eminem’s outfit in D12’s “My Band” video with his “Ay Caramba” video last year. The clip for that track came under fire for cultural appropriation, and in response, he apologized to the Mexican-American community and eventually removed it from YouTube.

The tweet from him crowning Em and Wayne the two greatest rappers of all time comes just over a month after Billboard’s list of Greatest Rappers of All Time sparked debate. Wayne appeared at No. 7 on the list, while Eminem appeared at No. 5 much to the chagrin of Melle Mel, who suggested that he was only that high because he’s white. “Obviously he’s a capable rapper,” said Mel. “If Eminem was another n***a like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list when a n***a that could rhyme just as good as him is 35?”

Source link

قالب وردپرس

NLE Choppa Pays Homage to Cash Money With “Ain’t Gonna Answer” f/ Lil Wayne

SOURCE

birdman

cash-money

collaborations

dfp-music

dfp-music-other

easter-eggs

Featured

hot-boys

juvenile

lil-wayne

Music

music-videos

new-music

new-releases

News

nle-choppa

nostalgia

tier-one

tribute

videos

young-money

NLE Choppa tapped Lil Wayne for a new single and music video “Ain’t Gonna Answer,” and used the opportunity to reverently pay tribute to Weezy, Cash Money, the Hot Boys, “Back That Azz Up,” and more. In the second half of Wayne’s verse, he references Drake and calls him “Drizzy Drake Rogers” thinking that “Rogers” was actually his last name and not his email provider.

“And I think his name was kinda like ‘Drake Drizzy Rogers’ / Or ‘Drizzy Drake Rogers,’ I’m too busy to play father,” Wayne rapped.

During the interview, Yachty asked Drake if people still call him “Drake Drizzy Rogers,” clearly referencing “Ransom” from 15 years ago.

Drake then asked Yachty if he knows the story behind the name.

“My email was drizzydrake@rogers.com, Rogers was the service provider in Canada and [Wayne] didn’t realize the ‘at’ in the email was like a middle interference,” Drake explained. “He just thought my name was Drizzy Drake Rogers. I mean he rapped it once, I just didn’t have the heart to correct him.”

Rogers wasn’t the only moment of Canadian heritage during the interview.

About halfway through the interview, the pair of rappers went on a tangent about upbringings, nature versus nurture, and, of course, where accents come from.

“Our accents […] we probably all sound foreign to you being from Toronto because of just a place that we’re from,” Drake explained. “I don’t know who started talking like that! I’d love to meet that guy. I literally want to meet the first Toronto man of all time. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know where he got the accent from or any of that but I know that he’s influenced all of us. I’m a full father talking like internet memes because that’s just my upbringing.”

Though the conversation doesn’t go much further than that, Drake was pretty clear about his desire to meet the originators of the Toronto accent.

Source link

قالب وردپرس
