Details regarding the 29-year-old’s reported casting remain a mystery.

Goth’s career reached new heights last year following the release of dual period pieces X—which saw her memorably play multiple characters—and Pearl. It appears filming for MaXXXine, the third entry in the Ti West-directed trilogy, started yesterday.

Mia Goth continued mining the horror vein this year in Brandon Cronenberg’s unsettling sophomore feature Infinity Pool, co-starring with Alexander Skarsgård. Her previous work in and around the genre includes Suspiria, A Cure for Wellness, and Marrowbone.

Back in 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige delivered the surprise announcement of a Blade revival with Ali to play the titular character. Since then, the film has experienced a few setbacks. Bassam Tariq announced in September 2022 he was stepping down as director, but would retain his role as an executive producer. A Marvel rep told the Hollywood Reporter that Tariq’s departure was due to “continued shifts” in the production schedule.

“I’m eager to support and see how the next director builds on the foundation we’ve set,” he wrote on Instagram regarding his exit. “I’ll now be joining the project as an EP [executive producer] as I move on to what’s next.”

Marvel Studios decided just a few days later to pause the project and “take some extra time” to find a new director and develop the script.

In November, Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) took over as director. Michael Starrbury was also tapped to pen the new script as Marvel wanted Blade to take on a darker tone.

Blade was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on Nov. 3, 2023, but has been pushed back to Sept. 6, 2024.

Source link

قالب وردپرس

Original ‘Blade’ Alum Stephen Dorff Trashes Marvel Reboot

SOURCE

black-adam

blade

criticism

dfp-entertainment

dfp-entertainment-superhero

Featured

mahershala-ali

marvel

marvel-cinematic-universe

marvel-studios

Music

News

reboot

superheroes

vampires

Stephen Dorff has gotten himself into another entirely one-sided verbal spat with Marvel Studios over its upcoming reboot of Blade led by his True Detective co-star Mahershala Ali. “My life is pretty weird, but look, I love all kinds of movies,” Dorff, who starred in the original 1998 Blade film, said in an interview with the Daily Beast in response to his […]

Stephen Dorff has gotten himself into another entirely one-sided verbal spat with Marvel Studios over its upcoming reboot of Blade led by his True Detective co-star Mahershala Ali.

“My life is pretty weird, but look, I love all kinds of movies,” Dorff, who starred in the original 1998 Blade film, said in an interview with the Daily Beast in response to his film interests outside of comedy. “If comic book movies were more like when I started when we made Blade, or the few that have been decent over the years, like when Nolan did The Dark Knight and reinvented Batman from Tim Burton, who’s obviously a genius…when they were interesting, like when Norrington did Blade, and Guillermo [del Toro] was fucking around in it.”

The 49-year-old continued, “But all this other garbage is just embarrassing, you know what I mean? I mean, God bless them, they’re making a bunch of money, but their movies suck [laughs]. And nobody’s going to remember them. Nobody’s remembering Black Adam at the end of the day. I didn’t even see that movie, it looked so bad.”

In true “what he say fuck me for?” fashion, Dorff criticized Dwayne Johnson’s DC tentpole twice. When asked about finding mainstream material similar to Divinity, the actor said that if major studios or DC were interested in “doing cool things,” they would seek out the next Eddie Alcazar, the director of Divinity, adding with a laugh, “Not making Black Adam and worthless garbage over and over again.”

“Marvel is used to me trashing them anyway,” Dorff said. “How’s that PG Blade movie going for you, that can’t get a director? [laughs] Because anybody who goes there is going to be laughed at by everyone, because we already did it and made it the best. There’s no Steve Norrington out there.”

Norrington was the director of the original Blade film. As for the upcoming reboot, White Boy Rick director Yann Demange took over after Tariq Bassam stepped down.

Dorff starred directly across Mahershala Ali in the franchise-reinvigorating third season of HBO’s True Detective in 2019. Ali—a two-time Oscar-winner who’s shown great enthusiasm for his Blade project and got Wesley Snipes’ blessing—was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for True D.

“I think Mahershala will do a great job in that part,” Dorff told interviewers of Blade in 2019. The next year he said, “I think he’ll do a great job with Blade and reinventing the franchise. If you’re sitting this one out, there are other movies and shows to check out this weekend that might be worth your while. Apple TV+’s Swan Song drops Friday, marking Mahershala Ali’s first leading role in a feature film, which means it is a must-watch.

The Witcher is returning to Netflix after a long hiatus with Season 2 after climbing to the top 10 most-watched Netflix shows ever. So if you haven’t watched it yet, it’s not too late to join the millions of people who couldn’t get enough of the Netflix series. However, if you want to hit theaters but are not in the mood for an action flick, Oscars favorite Guillermo del Toro has a new film coming out this week. The filmmaker tapped Bradley Cooper as the lead in his latest thriller Nightmare Alley and judging by the trailer, the film is everything cinephiles love about a del Toro film. So whether you’re staying safe at home binge-watching this weekend or bravely heading to a theater to see Tom Holland in action, this week’s offerings and last week’s releases provide more than enough options to choose from. Yeah, I really can’t talk about anything.”

As for the pressure of the role, which is something he previously spoke about in a recent Late Show interview, the two-time Oscar winner said he’s learning how to navigate it. “It’s a lot of pressure, it’s a lot,” he said. “But, you know, other people have done it and survived and succeeded so I’m gonna try to set myself up to do the absolute best work I can do.”

Of course, Ali’s take on Blade—which technically kicked off with a voice cameo in this year’s Eternals—doesn’t mark the first dance with Marvel for the actor. Earlier into Tuesday’s interview, around the 22-minute mark, Ali reflected on his appearance in Netflix and Marvel Studios’ Luke Cage as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes.

Leading into his explanation of why he agreed to take that part, Ali spoke on his larger artistic goals, and how important constant growth is to prevent being mired in audience familiarity.

“It was important for me to move on to keep building toward what I saw for myself. … I wanna move up. I just don’t wanna be on somebody’s show always supporting other people’s narratives,” Ali said. “So [Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker] came to me doing Luke Cage and he was like, ‘Yo, you wanna do this show? And I had just gotten off of House of Cards. He was like, ‘He’s gonna die.’ I was like, ‘Cool.’ That’s the only reason I did it, though, because they were going to kill him. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise because I had just gotten off of a show. I didn’t want to get stuck.”

As an actor, Ali added, getting “stuck” in the eyes of viewers as one character is equivalent to death. Around the 23:44 mark, Charlamagne tha God jokingly brought up the character of Blade in this context, prompting further explanation from the actor.

“I hear you and that was a real concern and for me,” he said. “It’s always been about trying to diversify and make sure that I wasn’t repeating or playing the same character or making sure that I’m always pushing myself. … If I don’t feel uncomfortable, then I know I’m not growing.”

Going even further, starting around the 24:42 mark, Ali touched on the unique challenges of taking on a character of this magnitude while also treating it with the same level of seriousness he would any other character, Marvel or not.

“There’s so much about that that is challenging in general,” he said. “I got my hands full, and even in doing it and wanting to do other stuff. I don’t wanna just be Blade. That is just one character. And honestly, as huge as that is [and] as huge as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is and all of that is amazing, all of these characters are important to me equally. You know, if you had five children, you’re trying to take care of all of them kids. … I love this work so I treat ’em all equally.”

Coverage of Ali’s aforementioned Colbert interview included a smattering of focus on the actor saying he had lost sleep over the Eternals cameo, specifically due to the unique challenges of having to debut his version of the character without being able to fully develop a visual and auditory interpretation. Charlamagne brought this up around the 25:25 mark, at which point Ali reiterated his intention behind that statement.

“It’s just something that felt a little premature because otherwise you would never do that,” Ali said. “But Marvel has their ways of approaching things and building anticipation, which I love and respect. So again, it’s just a new challenge.”

It’s not clear when, exactly, fans will get their first look at Mahershala Ali in full Blade form. In addition to Ali, the film will also feature Glenn Close, Naomie Harris, Awkwafina, and Adam Beach.

Swan Song will debut both in theaters and globally on Apple TV+ later this year on Friday, December 17.

Here’s a synopsis of the Benjamin Cleary-directed film, as provided by Apple TV+:

“Set in the near future, Swan Song is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. Swan Song explores how far we will go, and how much we’re willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.”

Cleary, who also wrote the film, spoke to Deadline about the forthcoming project.

“This started as a premise I had ten years ago I’d stuck in a drawer, and then five years with the script, and when Mahershala’s name came up, I was like, ‘can we even get him to just read it? He did, and we sat down and it became one of those conversations you sometimes have, where each minute you feel more energized and inspired,” Cleary said. “I could see within minutes I was sitting across from someone special, who was completely tuned into the heart of the script. After two hours, he said, ‘I’d love to do this.’ We were delayed six months by Covid, and we used that time to speak about all the elements, and he had such a beautiful way of discovering all these little things within the story.”

Ali, who is serving as a producer on the movie, also spoke to the publication.

“After I committed, it just seemed like so many of us were processing our mortality and it spoke to me in such a strong way because I had never seen anything quite like this one before and I was excited to wrestle with the character’s dilemma on a daily basis,” the actor said. “It felt more purposeful and worthy of being in the world because we do live in such sensitive times, when so many of us have experienced losing people in a way that feels unnatural. The themes the film brings up that the character has to process, are things that so many of are having to process, either closely or by a degree or two of separation, when people were passing away.”

Source link

قالب وردپرس

‘Blade’ Director Talks Impact of Wesley Snipes’ Trilogy on Upcoming Reboot

SOURCE

blade

dfp-entertainment

dfp-entertainment-action

dfp-entertainment-movies

directors

Featured

mahershala-ali

marvel

Music

News

tier-one

wesley-snipes

Production on Bassam Tariq’s Blade doesn’t kick off until next July, but the director—whose 2020 entry Mogul Mowgli is currently stacking up a fresh round of strong reviews—is already giving fans assurance that the impact of previous franchise star Wesley Snipes will indeed be felt in this new Marvel chapter. The move may not prevent Green Book from snagging a few nominations, but then again, this year’s ceremony has already dealt with enough controversy with their former host Kevin Hart. The last thing that the Academy wants is to be taken to task for celebrating such a highly contentious nominee.

Green Book has been mired in controversy throughout its theatrical run, starting with the family of pianist Dr. Donald W.
