Cecily Strong Leaves ‘Saturday Night Live’ After 11 Seasons

Written by on December 18, 2022

Cecily Strong made her last appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, signaling the end of an illustrious career on the late night sketch comedy series.

“Tonight we send off one of the best to ever do it. We’ll miss you, Cecily!” SNL wrote on Instagram alongside a photograph of a sign that read, “We’ll miss you, Cecily.”

Strong joined SNL back in September 2012 during the show’s 38th season. The following year, Cecily started hosting SNL’s iconic Weekend Update segment alongside Seth Meyers and Colin Jost, before Michael Che took Strong’s spot in Season 40.

Strong made her departure official during Saturday’s Weekend Update segment, reprising her role as recurring character Cathy Anne. “I think it’s going to give me some much-needed stability,” Strong joked in the above clip. “I got friends on the inside, they seem to be doing OK.”

Kenan Thompson paid tribute to his fellow cast member in another sketch, which took place at a Radio Shack Christmas party.

“Honestly I don’t think Radio Shack could have survived this long without Cecily,” he said. “Every time she came to work, she had a new character or a new accent or a new impression that would just blow you away. She’d have a power and a joy to her performance that made you remember why you loved working at Radio Shack in the first place.”
