As the weeks go by, it’s become clear that no one is safe from the global coronavirus pandemic. With over 182,000 cases worldwide, everyone from athletes to celebrities have discovered that they tested positive for COVID-19. While it can feel like those in Hollywood would never fall prey to this virus for whatever reason, recent revelations from Tom Hanks and Idris Elba have proven that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Scroll down to see which notable figures have come forward after testing positive for coronavirus.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
Tom Hanks shared last week that he and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus. The couple was in Australia for pre-production on the untitled Baz Luhrmann-directed film based on the life of Elvis Presley. Hanks was set to portray Presley’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker. Since revealing the news of their diagnosis, Hanks has occasionally updated his supporters during their time in isolation. PEOPLE reported Monday that the two have been released from the hospital, and are currently in a rental home still under quarantine.
Idris Elba
Idris Elba said he decided to find out if he had coronavirus after learning last Friday that someone he had been in contact with had recently tested positive. Three days later, Elba was informed that he also tested positive for COVID-19. The Hobbs & Shaw star says that he has yet to show any symptoms, but he’s now in self-isolation. “We live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it—it’s bullshit,” he said. “This is real. I just wanted to share my news with you guys. … Stay positive, and don’t freak out.”
Olga Kurylenko
Olga Kurylenko, who most notably played Camille Montes in the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, revealed that she tested positive for coronavirus after feeling under the weather for nearly a week. Kurylenko says she was experiencing fatigue, and had a noticeable fever when she decided to get tested.
In her next Instagram post where she thanked people for their well wishes, Kurylenko responded to people questioning why she was quarantining herself at home after finding out she had coronavirus. “Because hospitals are full and they are only taking patients that are struggling with life, if I understand correctly, I was told that if I get worse to call an ambulance,” she wrote.
Kristofer Hivju, known for his role as Tormund in Game of Thrones, shared that he and his family are self-isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19. Hivju said that despite experiencing “mild symptoms of a cold,” he understands that this virus could be a “devastating diagnosis” for others. He used the announcement of his personal experience to stress that everyone use all the necessary precautions to avoid their own positive diagnosis.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, former television host and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also tested positive for coronavirus. “She is feeling well, is taking all the recommended precautions and her symptoms remain mild,” a statement from the office of the prime minister said about her condition.
Francis Xavier Suarez
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez tested positive for the coronavirus after coming into contact with a Brazillian government official who also tested positive.
