It’s only fitting that Chicago‘s favorite son gave his hometown audience a special treat.
Chance the Rapper stopped by Death Cab for Cutie‘s performance at Lollapalooza on Friday. During his quick appearance at the band’s hour-long set, Chance and Death Cab did their track “Do You Remember.” This is the first time they’ve performed the song that serves as track 2 on Chano’s new album The Big Day, released a week before day one of the festival.
Despite putting together a Grammy-winning mixtape run, The Big Day is technically Chance’s debut album. As a result, the rapper channeled the energy and excitement of his wedding day to create a record that’s stuffed with surprising features. Everyone from DaBaby to En Vogue to Nicki Minaj (twice) appears on the project which shows cases Chance’s appreciation for a variety of eras and genres of music.
The Big Day‘s mass appeal placed the album in a heated race with NF’s The Search for the No. 1 debut album in the country. Hits Daily Double has The Search edging out The Big Day, but this chart works independently from Billboard. If the latter gives the nod to Chance over NF, this will be the rapper’s first No. 1 project on the Billboard charts.
