Charlamagne Tha God Thinks Fans Are ‘Hypocrites’ For Tearing Down Kanye West

Charlamagne Tha God thinks that we’re all being too hard on Kanye West. The Breakfast Club host stopped by Buzzfeed’s Profile to have the tables flipped, getting interviewed by host Audie Cornish.

When the talk turned to mental health, Kanye wasn’t too far behind. The radio host said that Kanye’s fans are being hypocritical for tearing him down in a time of crisis.   

“I think we’re all wack and we’re all hypocrites,” he said. “I think we all contradict ourselves because we see a guy sitting there, screaming that he may have mental health issues, but everyone wants to cancel him.”

Charlamagne called on fans to be more empathetic to West, who “really may be going through some things.”   

When it came time to present evidence that West was in the midst of a mental health crisis, Charlamagne couldn’t help but get a dig in. 

“Yo, I think everybody supporting Donald Trump is dealing with some type of mental health issue,” he said.

Ultimately, Charlamagne advocated for taking Ye with the biggest grain of salt until he gets his head on straight. 

“I can’t even take anything that he’s saying serious. He’s clearly telling us that something is wrong. So it’s like, why are we putting so much stock in anything that’s coming out of his mouth when he’s telling us something is wrong?” he asked. 

Charlamagne was supposed to have a discussion with West about mental health issues earlier this month. However, he canceled the event once he realized that West’s Donald Trump support would overshadow the topics he really wanted to talk about.

“I’m like, Yeah, I don’t think now would be the time to have the conversation,” Charlamagne said. “He has some things he still needs to figure out. Plus, I thought it would be a distraction.”

It’s clearly something that Charlamagne is still interested in, though. He told Cornish that he thinks it’s “very powerful” to have two black men talking openly about mental health.
