Charles Barkley on Anthony Davis Trade Situation: ‘Don’t Ruin Your Reputation’
Written by SOURCE on February 15, 2019
We’re less than two months away from wrapping up the 2018-19 season, and that end couldn’t come fast enough for Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.
The two sides have found themselves in an immensely awkward situation after the Pelicans failed to pull the trigger on a deal for Davis, who requested a trade less than two weeks before the trade deadline through his agent Rich Paul.
The timing of Paul’s announcement put the Pelicans in a tough spot since the organization couldn’t engage in trade discussions with the Boston Celtics, unless Kyrie Irving was included in a deal due to the “Rose Rule.” With the Celtics, who have long-coveted Davis and were capable of offering the best package deal, temporarily out of the picture, it paved the way for the Los Angeles Lakers to land AD.
The plan didn’t work as they had hoped. Now Davis will play out the remainder of the season in a Pelicans jersey as the crowd boos him in his home pregame introductions, and the team looks to do just enough to avoid a costly fine from the league for not playing AD. The situation is a mess, and Charles Barkley has things to say about it all. Check out the video below to hear his explanation.
Charles Barkley on Anthony Davis: “Don’t ruin your reputation as 1 of the nicest guys in the world. Your agent works for you; you don’t work for him. They handled the situation wrong and it’s going to bite him in the a—… Workers ain’t never gonna have power over ownership.” pic.twitter.com/j5AAlYLCkI
