Chet Hanks Slams Eric André for Calling Him ‘Emotionally Disturbed’

Written by on March 16, 2023

Ahead of the arrival of The Eric Andre Show Season 6, the comedian has found himself in a back-and-forth with Chet Hanks over his behavior on the show’s set.

In an interview with Rolling Stone that was published earlier this week, André described Hanks as a “tough cookie” who “broke our crew.” He compared the experience to that of Rust, the movie production where Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a gun he was told was unloaded.

“He is… emotionally disturbed,” André said. “He stole a motorcycle and rode it around. He almost knocked a bunch of grips and gaffers off their ladders. It was very dangerous for us. It was very dangerous. He tried to prank us back, but we edited out all his bullshit! He’s not well. How did Colin Hanks come out so good and Chet Hanks come out so bad?”

Hanks caught wind of André’s comments, and confirmed that he rode around on a motorbike on the show’s set because he was trying to “match [the] energy.” He went on to suggest he “outshined” André on his own show, and said the comedian was “genuinely nervous” and “easily scared” by him. “I thought you were funny and cool, but turns out you’re just a pussy,” he said in a video shared on Instagram. “I was just playing along with your schtick, dude. But it is what it is. Some people are just straight bitches. Apparently Eric André is one.”

André appeared to take the comments in jest, because he reposted the clip to his Instagram Stories. “Everything Chet Hanks just said about me is a fucking, bold-faced lie. He’s a fucking liar,” said André in his response video, which could be him playing up the beef to hype up Season 6 of the show. “And I dare him to take a fucking DNA test and prove that Tom Hanks is his fucking father.”

Last year, Hanks appeared on Ziwe and was asked about accusations that he’s a culture vulture. He was asked if he wanted to “apologize to any marginalized communities,” and in response he just said, “Nah.” He added that he didn’t feel as though he’s “truly done anything offensive,” even though he’s previously been called out for speaking in Jamaican Patois and using the N-word.
