Chet Haze Has Followed Up His Awkward Patois Use by Dropping a New Song

Written by on January 8, 2020

Tom Hanks‘ rapper son Chet Haze appears to be taking full advantage of his recent publicity.

The 29-year-old entertainer made headlines this week when he shared a video of himself speaking Jamaican patois on the Golden Globes red carpet. Haze was at the event in support of his father, who was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

“BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN. CHUNE IN.”

The bizarre video garnered mixed reactions online, some of which included accusations of cultural appropriation, while others were strictly of the roasting variety. Chet was seemingly unfazed by the backlash, as indicated in an Instagram post featuring a CNN headline: “Average citizens: damn this is scary I can’t believe we’re on the verge of WW3 let me check the news smh…” he captioned the screenshot.

Unfortunately, Chet wasn’t done. He continued to troll his critics online, posting additional videos of him speaking patois and even teased a track that suggested he was getting into dancehall.

The track, titled “Harley,” was released under Chet’s two-man act, Something Out West. And, contrary to Chet’s teasers, the record was definitely not dancehall.

It seems Chet has taken cues from other celebrities who are convinced trolling is an effective method of promotion.
