A Chicago man was brutally slammed to the ground by police on Thanksgiving Day while he was being arrested and a citizen accountability group is now looking into the incident, BuzzFeed News reports.
In the graphic video, an officer is seen lifting the young man up and slamming his head to the sidewalk. The man allegedly spit on an officer while he was being detained for drinking alcohol in a public area.
“Look At What The Fuck The Police Just Did To This Boy On 79th And Cottage Grove,” Jovanna Jamison posted to Facebook. “He Wasn’t Doing Shit, I Pray To God That Boy Not Dead, Check On Yaw People Mann Forreal. Another Innocent Young Man Smfh.” The Facebook video has some 22,000 shares online so far.
“While a single video does not depict the entirety of the interactions between the police and the individual, this particular video is very disturbing,” Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot said after viewing the video. “It is my expectation that the investigation will be comprehensive and expedited so that the public may gain a complete picture of what happened.”
