Chris Evans needed to clear something up.

Earlier this month, the 37-year-old actor shared a tweet in which he seemingly confirmed the fate of Captain America. Evans posted the heartfelt message shortly after production wrapped on the fourth Avengers film. He took the time to thank the MCU team as well as the fans for all the love support they’ve given him over the years. It seemed like a proper good-bye, which led many fans to believe Steve Rogers would meet his death in the upcoming project.

Yup, sounds like Evans’ Captain America is pretty much done for, right? Well, he might be; however, the actor insists the post was not intended to be a spoiler.

“I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler, and I should clarify that, regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would’ve tweeted the exact same thing,” he said ACE Comic Con in Chicago. “That last day of filming really was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies—this unbelievable tapestry—and you feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel, and I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect, but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.”

So, there you have it. There’s still a chance that the first Avenger will live through the as-of-yet-titled Avengers 4 film. Though it’s important to note that Evans has expressed his desire to leave MCU on a high note: “You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he told the New York Times earlier this year.

The fourth Avengers film is expected to hit theaters May 2019.
