Chuck D Is Now the Chairman of Celebrity Board for New Hip-Hop Museum

Written by on December 19, 2018

Chuck D’s group Public Enemy is undoubtedly a huge part of hip-hop history, so it makes sense that it’s been announced Wednesday that he’ll be serving as the Chairman of the Celebrity Board for the Universal Hip-Hop Museum. The Museum is scheduled to open its doors in 2022, with construction to start in The Bronx next year.

“My life has been dedicated to the hip-hop genre, both serving it as an artist and curating it to share with others, and I want to carry that work over to the Universal Hip-Hop Museum,” Chuck D explained upon announcing his addition to the Universal Hip-Hop Museum. “The museum is what we need to organize as a collective and present its history while having a hand in its future.”

Kurtis Blow, Chairman of the Board for the Museum, added, “Chuck D is one of the most intelligent and well-respected MC’s in the culture of hip-hop. The credibility he brings to our team is mammoth. He also understands the importance of the Universal Hip-Hop Museum, and vows to let the world know via a star-studded celebrity board in the near future.”

The newly announced museum recently secured $20 million in funding, with the designers behind The National Museum of African American History and Culture, Ralph Appelbaum Associates, already tapped to work on the design plans.

The museum promises to “celebrate and preserve the history of local and global hip-hop music and culture past, present and future.”
