Colin Kaepernick Spent His 32nd Birthday Feeding The Homeless in Oakland

Written by on November 4, 2019

Colin Kaepernick may not be in the NFL, but that hasn’t stopped him from being active in the community.

The quarterback spent his 32nd birthday feeding the homeless in Oakland, California, TMZ reports. Kaep brought out a food truck for the people living in Oakland’s Tent City, a large homeless encampment. He reportedly paid for every person who wanted a meal.

“In partnership with his foundation, Know Your Rights Camp, and with the help of his girlfriend, Nessa, Colin was literally walking around handing out backpacks that were filled with snacks, socks, air quality masks, shampoo and other crucial resources,” the outlet reported Sunday.

Kaepernick has used his birthday to give back to the community in the past. Back in 2016, he hosted the first Know Your Rights Camp event, where he brought dozens of Latinx and Black kids together to teach them their rights and to learn about social injustice. “We’re going to give you knowledge on policing history, what the systems of policing in America were based on, and we’re also going to teach you skills to make sure you always make it home safely,” the former San Francisco 49er reportedly said.

The quarterback hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2016 season, and it doesn’t look like that’ll be changing anytime soon. Even his representatives are flabbergasted at the fact that the still-fully capable QB can’t get a shot. “I have reached out to all 32 teams about Colin’s employment, with little to no response from teams about an opportunity for Colin,” one of his reps, Jeff Nalley, said. “In 25 years, I have never seen anything like it.”
