Creatives Want Change Offers Fellows Scholarships for Black Design Students

Written by on March 2, 2022

Creatives Want Change is accepting applications for its summer 2022 fellows program.

Founded by Joe Medved and Randy Cousin, the organization aims to mentor Black high school students who wish to pursue careers in fashion. CWC will sponsor its fellows to attend pre-college summer programs at some of the nation’s top-tier design schools: California College of the Arts, Fashion Institute of Technology, Academy of Art University, Otis College of Art & Design, Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Parsons School of Design.

The pre-college scholarships will cover application fees, full tuition for the partners’ programs, and a stipend for supplies. The participating schools will offer a mix of remote and in-person courses; for those who enroll in the latter programs, CWC will cover the costs of travel as well as room and board.

“As a Black creative, I often say to people that I’m a unicorn. I did not know that this industry existed,” Cousin said in a promotional video for CWC. “We can give [students] the opportunities that exist, but go relatively unknown to kids of color, specifically Black kids.”

CWC is offering scholarships to students who complete pre-college summer fashion design programs in 2021. You can learn more about the organization and its fellows program at CreativesWantChange.org.

The deadline for applications—which can be found here—is March 8.
