Dame Dash Says Aaliyah Asked Him to Appear in R. Kelly’s “Fiesta” Video

Written by on January 18, 2019

Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash recently distanced himself from the current conversation surrounding R. Kelly, stating that he wanted “no part” of JAY-Z’s collaboration album with the disgraced singer. “If you remember The Best of Both Worlds, you don’t see my name on that […] I never wanted no part of that,” he explained. Dash doubled down on his comments and defended his appearance in Kelly’s “Fiesta” video during a follow-up interview with Kenyatta Greggs.

“I was in ‘Fiesta,’ but only because Aaliyah said she wanted me to do it that way.” Dash said.

Dash’s initial comments prompted some criticism from his own former Roc-A-Fella brethren. “You gonna really say, you wasn’t there with n****s?” Memphis Bleek said on his own podcast. “You was opposed to it? You fucking lying.”

Aaliyah’s name has continually been brought up in the post-Surviving R. Kelly conversation, especially as it’s been alleged that the two of them had a sexual relationship when she was only 15. Former R. Kelly backup singer Jovante Cunningham stated she saw the two having sex at one point.

Meanwhile, R. Kelly’s former manager Henry James Mason has reportedly surrendered to police in Georgia today for making “terroristic threats and acts” targeted at the family of one of R. Kelly’s alleged victims.
