Danny Brown says he’s seeking treatment, telling fans amid coverage of a recent episode of his podcast that alcohol is “something I need to be done with.”
In short, Brown said on a recent episode of his show that he had turned his new album into Warp Records two years ago. From there, he questioned the “urgency” surrounding the project before initially telling fans to take to social media under a ‘Free Danny’ hashtag.
However, Brown later urged fans to cease such activity.
“Aye chill out with all the [Free Danny] shit,” he told fans in a tweet on Tuesday. “I was drunk and talking shit and that’s why my dumb ass is checking into treatment tomorrow.”
In the same tweet, Brown added that he’s “got nothing but love” for manager Dart Parker and Warp Records. Elsewhere, Brown pointed to alcohol, specifically, as something he needs to “be done with” due to using it causing him to “hurt the people that care the most.” He also explained that he had “a few last shows” he was “obligated to do” before treatment, clarifying a fan’s confusion over the timing of pre-recorded podcast episodes.
During a SXSW performance in Texas earlier this month, Brown got candid with fans about his current situation, saying at the time that he was set to “go get help” after finding himself in a “really dark place” in his life.
“At the end of the day, I’m 42 years old,” he told the crowd at a Dr. Martens event at the Austin-based festival. “Me sitting around fucking smoking blunts all day, fucking getting drunk—this shit is getting old. I will say, man, I know y’all way younger than me so everybody have y’all fun … [but] shit could get dark. I got into a really dark place with it so now I’m gonna go get help.”
Last week, JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown shared their full-length collab project Scaring the Hoes.
