DC Comics’ ‘The Curse of Brimstone’ Is Coming to an End

The Curse of Brimstone is the latest series from DC Comics’ New Age of Heroes line to come to an end, joining Sideways and The Immortal Men. The news was made official through the publisher’s March 2019 advance solicitation information, which shows that the comic will reach its “epic finale” following its upcoming 12th issue.
A little over a year ago, DC Comics announced the arrival of the New Age of Heroes featuring eight different titles, however, three series have already met their demise for a variety of reasons. Brimstone was never able to move the needle in regards to sales numbers in the direct market, as well as garnering a loyal fan base that spread the word to as many people as possible. For those reasons, the writing has been on the wall for the future of the comic.
The Curse of Brimstone tells the story of a kid named Joe Chamberlain, who makes a deal with the devil to save his small town. It was a tale that had writer Justin Jordan created that he intentionally hit too close to home. “The Curse of Brimstone is a very personal sort of book, which is actually why I was doing it when Dan [DiDio] approached me about doing a supernatural kind of book,” he told ComicBook.com. “I come from a very rural place in Pennsylvania. The county that I live in is the size of Rhode Island and has 40,000 people in it. It is literally 99% white people; it is that kind of place. It is coal country. The coal mines moved out, factories moved in, factories moved out, nothing moved in. It’s a dying area. And most of the U.S. by geography is that — but that is not what we see in superhero comics.”
