55-year-old actor Dean Cain doesn’t think DC Comics’ decision to have a bisexual Superman is “bold or brave,” rather just “bandwagoning.”

The former Superman star—who appeared on ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” from 1993 to 1997—spoke with Fox & Friends about DC’s decision on Tuesday.

“They said it’s a bold new direction, I say they’re bandwagoning,” Cain said of the character who will reveal his sexuality in the Nov. 9 issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El and will enter a relationship with reporter Jay Nakamura.

He added that the character would be “brave” if he was “fighting for the rights of gay people in Iran where they’ll throw you off a building for the offense of being gay.”

“Robin just came out as bi — who’s really shocked about that one? The new Captain America is gay. My daughter in [the TV series] ‘Supergirl,’ where I played the father, was gay,” Cain shared. “So I don’t think it’s bold or brave or some crazy new direction. If they had done this 20 years ago, perhaps that would be bold or brave.”

Cain’s rant continued, as he claimed Jon—the activist son of Clark Kent who is bisexual—would be brave if he were “fighting for the rights of women to attend school and have the ability to work and live and boys not to be raped by men under the new warm and fuzzy Taliban.” Cain, who previously called a Captain America comic that questions the American dream “anti-Americanism,” is seeing plenty of feedback over his comments on Twitter.
