Deion Sanders Docuseries ‘Coach Prime’ Gets First Look Clip

Written by on October 11, 2022

The four-episode docuseries from SMAC Productions following Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders’ just got an exclusive first-look clip.

Coach Prime debuts on Prime Video in December, and in an exclusive preview of the show, Sanders can be seen giving a rousing speech to his team following the Jackson Water Crisis this past summer, which forced Sanders and his Jackson State University Tigers to relocate to a local hotel.

“Just because we changed locations, y’all act like we changing destinations,” Sanders can be seen saying in the clip, which premiered on Tuesday. “It’s not. We’re the same, but we put you into a whole new environment and you act totally different. I’m seeing a whole bunch of followers and no leaders. Cause true leaders take responsibility for their team and helps them achieve goals.”

He continued, “You’ve got to believe this fellas. It’s all on your shirts, but the way you’re going about your life, you don’t. You just be entering through this thing thinking somebody gonna give you something, ain’t nobody gonna give you nothing. You’re gonna have to take it. You’re gonna have to earn it. You’re gonna have to want that thing, you’re gonna have to feel that thing, you’re gonna have to embody that thing.”

Coach Prime will take viewers inside Sanders’ groundbreaking experience with the Jackson State University football program, and will follow the JSU Tigers at practice and games, as well as in the locker room and on and off the field. Highlights will include when Sanders welcomes Travis Hunter, the nation’s top recruit, into the program, and how Sanders continues to change the way the country views HBCUs.

“We’re excited to welcome Coach Prime to the Prime Video family,” Marie Donoghue, the VP of Amazon’s global sports video, said in a statement. “Deion Sanders is such an inspiring leader, both on and off the field, and we look forward to taking fans inside Coach Prime’s world as the exciting season unfolds at Jackson State University.”

“When Coach Prime began his job at Jackson State, the biggest challenge and the brightest opportunity facing us was to collectively shine a light on HBCUs and break down barriers faced by these culturally important, yet overlooked and underfunded, institutions. We have worked tirelessly over the past few years—building coalitions, forging partnerships, and developing this documentary series—to encourage and create change,” Constance Schwartz-Morini, co-founder and CEO of SMAC Entertainment and executive producer of Coach Prime, added in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with Prime Video to expand the series’ audience and give viewers a sense of the culture unique to HBCUs and a behind-the-scenes look at Coach Prime, and his efforts to level the playing field.”
