Derek Fisher is getting another chance to prove himself as a head coach with the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA.
Prior to the introductory press conference scheduled for Friday, Fisher released a statement emphasizing the goals he has set out for himself with this new opportunity. “I’m excited to be the new head coach of the LA Sparks,” Fisher said, per ESPN. “There is no finer organization in the WNBA and I can’t wait to work with our ownership group, front office, talented players and staff to cement a culture of sustained excellence, which is what LA basketball fans demand — and deserve.”
In February 2016, Fisher was fired as head coach of the New York Knicks after just 136 games.
Fisher’s tenure with the Knicks didn’t leave a great impression on many, but there are some who believe a change in scenery could help the Sparks and their new head coach.
