Police in Hong Kong have charged four people with murder in connection to the gruesome slaying of influencer and model Abby Choi, whose missing head was found in a soup pot, according to local broadcaster TVB.
The 28-year-old model, who was reported missing last week, appeared on the front cover of the latest edition of L’Officiel Monaco magazine. The terrifying discovery was made on Sunday (Feb. 26), two days after the rest of Choi’s body was found.
According to police superintendent Alan Chung, a young woman’s skull—believed to be Choi’s—had been found in one of several cooking pots they had seized from the home. The head had “no skin or meat on it” and was boiled until only her skull remained. Choi’s legs were recovered from a refrigerator. A meat slicer, an electric saw, a hammer, face shields and black raincoats were also recovered at the scene. “There’s a hole on the right side rear of the skull, so the pathologist believes that that should be the fatal attack on the victim,” Chung said.
Choi’s former husband, Alex Kwong, 28, was arrested on Saturday, but has not been charged yet. He was reported to have been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell. He was caught at the Tung Chung pier on Lantau Island as he was trying to flee, purportedly with millions in cash and luxury watches.
Kwong’s father and brother were charged with murder, while his 63-year-old mother was also arrested and charged with obstructing the case. Hong Kong police have told the media they believe Choi and her former in-laws had many financial disputes involving “huge sums” of money.
“We believe the victim and her ex-husband’s family had many financial disputes involving huge sums,” explained Chung in a statement to news agency AFP. “Someone was dissatisfied with how the victim handled her assets, which became a motive to kill.”
