Star Wars universe continues with the new series, The Mandalorian, which is set to premiere later this year.
During a panel at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago‘s McCormick Place, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy along with filmmakers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni unveiled the newest addition to the successful franchise. The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+, a new streaming service that will debut on Nov. 12. The television series will take place on the native planet of the popular characters Boba and Jango Fett with the purpose of detailing the events that took place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
The Mandalorian is described “as a gunslinger odyssey” that brings Old West themes to the world of sci-fi. This is within Filoni’s wheelhouse; he previously helmed Cowboys & Aliens. He directed the series’ opening episode and serves as one of the show’s executive producers.
The show’s bounty hunting gunfighter will be played by Game of Throne and Narcos star Pedro Pascal, who professed his love for the franchise at the panel.
“Just look at the image…that’s what it’s like. Fantasy fulfillment that’s what’s like. I don’t know what I can and can’t say,” Pascal said before describing his character. “Some would say he has low moral character…he’s badass… He’s got a lot of Clint Eastwood in him.”
Fellow cast members Gina Carano and Carl Weathers were also present at the event. The Mandalorian‘s other stars include Giancarlo Esposito, Nick Nolte. The confirmed directors include Dope‘s Rick Famuyiwa as well as Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi. Take a look at some pics from the upcoming series’ below.
