Disney+ Is Developing a ‘Hocus Pocus’ Sequel

It looks like a Hocus Pocus sequel will be arriving in the near future.
Disney‘s upcoming streaming service Disney+ is developing the sequel, Collider reports. The original film, which was released back in 1993 and directed by Kenny Ortega, starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, Doug Jones, and Omri Katz.
Jen D’Angelo, a writer and co-producer on Workaholics, has been tapped to pen the script for the Hocus Pocus sequel. The movie had a budget of $28 million and made $39.5 million at the box office. Despite its lackluster box office performance, the film went on to become a cult classic. The film’s July release might also have played a factor in the Halloween-themed movie not doing so well when it initially dropped.
Though no deals are in place, Collider reports that Disney is hoping they’ll be able to get Midler, Parker, and Najimy to join the sequel’s cast. Collider added that if they do join, it’s not known if they’ll be main characters in the film. Back in 2014, Midler said that she, as well as her co-stars, would be down for a sequel. “Inundate the Disney company,” Midler said during a Reddit AMA. “Because I have canvassed the girls and they are wiling to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask the Walt Disney company. “
Well, it looks like it’s finally happening.
Disney+, which will launch on November 12, 2019, is priced at $6.99 a month.
