Disney Shares New ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ Trailer

Joachim Rønning’s Maleficent sequel, which picks up the story several years after the events of the 2014 PG-rated original, is out this October. But first, Disney has dropped off a new trailer for the presumed hit, again starring Angelina Jolie.
The film’s official synopsis promises “new adversaries” and fresh alliances, with Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer among those also joining Jolie in the cast.
Way back in 2014, Jolie spoke candidly on what inspired her to take the role, which then marked what she considered the perfect bold choice for her at that moment in her career.
“[Motherhood] had a lot to do with it,” she explained to Collider at the time. “Also, the artist in me felt that it’s good to do something bold, every once in awhile, that you’re not comfortable with and haven’t done.” Noting that she was indeed “a bit nervous” about the role’s more theatrical and comedic requirements, Jolie ultimately decided it was simply part of the artist’s journey to challenge herself.
“That’s what we have to do, as artists,” she said.
The gamble paid off, with the first Maleficent ultimately taking in more than $240 million at the domestic box office.
Up top, catch a look at Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The full thing is out Oct. 18.
