DJ Envy Admits He Blackballed Nicki Minaj From His Rotation

On Monday, The Breakfast Club gave some air time to Nicki Minaj by playing some freestyles she put out this past weekend on her Apple music show, Queen Radio.
After that, the co-hosts discussed DJ Envy‘s prior aversion to airing Minaj’s music. The segue to this discussion came after they played the lyrics “And then they say ‘You know, it’s time to drop your single’ I said ‘Noooo/ You know radio already tried to blackball a b*tch,” were heard by all.
At that point Charlamagne Tha God lit a match under the convo by saying “DJ Envy is the only DJ blackballing you. That is a fact.” He then asked his co-host to elaborate, on-air, about something that he had said regarding the subject, off-air. At that point DJ Envy admitted that “I thought I was the only that wasn’t playing her record,” in reference to the issues that Minaj had with Envy’s fellow DJ fraternity member, DJ Self.
You can read all about that with this throwback article from August 2018: right here.
In response to his stated reasoning, Charlamagne called that justification “wack” and a “shame,” since both Envy and Minaj came out of Queens. Watch below and react accordingly:
As mentioned by Vibe, last summer Envy made his case for siding with his fellow DJ against Minaj. “Nicki can have an opinion on Self, Self can have his opinion on Nicki,” he said at the time. “But when you start saying, ‘I got hungry N-words that’s going to come up there,’ nah…You don’t threaten no DJ over his opinion. Now, if Self said something foul and disrespectful—sure. But not over his opinion…every DJ on the station better stop playing [her].”
