DJ Khaled Celebrates Going No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart

DJ Khaled has another No. 1 to add to his impressive discography as his latest album, Father of Ashad, has ascended to the top of Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart

Khaled broke this news on Monday when he posted a screenshot of the chart to his Instagram account. While this is a great accomplishment, fans couldn’t help but notice Khaled took a subtle shot at Tyler, the Creator and Billboard with the post’s caption.

“Fan Luv thank you for all your love and support. We got the #1Hip Hop album in the country this week!” Khaled wrote. “ANOTHER ONE ! SUMMER IS OURS ! I’m in the music bizz not bundle bizz.”

Khaled’s caption seems to be in response to a piece ran by the New York Times. Throughout the article, the Times‘ Ben Sisario attempted to decipher the intricacies that cloud album bundles and album sales. For this, Sisario references the light jabs being thrown by DJ Khaled and Tyler, the Creator. After learning that Tyler’s IGOR album beat out Father of Ashad for the No. 1 album in the country, Khaled was reportedly extremely upset and decided to take his anger out on anyone that would listen. 

“He stormed into Epic with an entourage… He was angry and yelling. He threw a temper tantrum,” a source described to Page Six. Another insider went on to disclose more about Khaled’s behavior at the office.

“He was furious. There was some nasty stuff said. Publicly, he’s all about ‘positivity,’ but there is a mean side to him that people don’t see,” the source explained. “He overhyped the record and blew it up as his biggest album ever.”

This didn’t stop at Epic. Khaled then took to social media where he posted a video that sent subs Tyler’s way. Although he ended up deleting the clip, users were able to save the recording before it disappeared from the internet. Once the feud hit Twitter, Tyler slyly like a tweet trashing Khaled’s album. 

For his report, Sisario conintued to explain that the two albums had “an almost equal number of streams” forcing Billboard to count their bundle sales. After reviewing their packages, the publication decided that Khaled’s partnership with various energy drinks won’t be added to the albums he sold as it was an “explicit attempts at encouraging mass purchases.” That decision pushed Tyler’s album over the top and led to the caption his followers have seen today.
