Donald Glover to Join ‘Community’ Cast Reunion for Virtual Table Read

Variety reports Donald Glover will be part of a Community reunion where the cast will hold a virtual table read and Q&A to help raise money for two charities focused on COVID-19 relief efforts. It will be the first time Glover returns to the show since he left during Season 5.
In addition to Glover and creator Dan Harmon, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong will also be there to read from the script of the 2014 episode “Cooperative Polygraphy.”
In this episode, the cast gathers together in the Greendale Community College library following the funeral of Pierce (Chevy Chase), to meet with the executor of his estate, played by Walter Goggins. The characters meet with the estate executor one-by-one before being given what’s entitled to each of them. Goggins will not be available for the table read.
The special will request donations that would go towards the charities of José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods. Both of which aim to supply responders working on the frontlines and vulnerable communities across the country with fresh, nourishing meals.
The reunion will air on Sony Pictures TV’s Community YouTube page on Monday, May 18, at 2 p.m. PT. Viewers can submit questions through social media using the hashtag #AskCommunity, and tagging @CommunityTV.
This virtual table read could possibly pave the way for a Community movie involving the entire cast down the road. Danny Pudi, who played Abed, revisited his “six seasons and a movie” mantra last month in an interview with Comic Book, offering a glimmer of hope by stating that the odds were “better today than it was yesterday.”
“You know what? It’s funny, because we’ve all been texting this week,” Pudi said. “I was talking to Gillian [Jacobs] yesterday, I was on Ken [Jeong] and Joel [McHale]’s podcast the other day, I texted with [director] Justin Lin recently about all this, because everyone’s been re-watching it again.”
Community has experienced a new wave of interest after the show became available on Netflix on April 1. The series can also be streamed on Hulu.
McHale believes that this newfound attention and admiration for Community can lead to bigger and better things for the show, telling Variety, “There’s way more rumblings than there used to be. I think with the renewed interest, and I know the cast is interested, that it could happen.”
