Drake Offers to Fix Fred VanVleet’s Chipped Tooth: ‘You Can Use My Free Health Care’

Written by on June 8, 2019

If the Raptors are truly “like a college sports team,” then Drake is by far their most famous booster. Not only does he lace them in OVO athletic gear, but he also offers free dental care.

Late into the Raptors’ 105-92 victory at Oracle Arena, Fred VanVleet caught an unintentional elbow from Shaun Livingston while jostling for a rebound. As they were escorting the Toronto guard off the court to get stitched up, the medical staff forgot a very important item on the court: VanVleet’s tooth. The blow resulted in several stitches under VanVleet’s right eye and a chipped tooth.

Because the injury happened while the Raptors were taking a 3-1 series lead over the Warriors, it was easy for VanVleet to find humor in the situation. VanVleet smiled at a reporter who asked about his mouth, revealing his chipped front tooth.

“No, I don’t,” VanVleet replied when asked if he played hockey at his native home state of Illinois. “And if that’s what being Canadian is, I’m not sure I want it. I don’t play hockey. I got a lot of respect for those guys and what they do. But losing a tooth is not fun. So obviously the stitches I can deal with. I was more upset that I could have the remnants of my teeth rolling around in my mouth as I was laying there on the ground.”

Although VanVleet is not too keen on being Canadian, his team’s global ambassador still offered to share the benefits of having universal healthcare.

“Damn twin,” Drake commented on VanVleet’s Instagram post. “You can use my free health care.”
