Drakeo the Ruler Acquitted of Murder Charges

Written by on July 26, 2019

Drakeo The Ruler was found not guilty on murder and attempted murder charges, The Fader reports

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a second count of street gang conspiracy charge after five days of deliberation. They have until August 1 to decide whether to refile. Drakeo, who was convicted of felony gun possession by a felon, will remain in prison until that decision is reached.

Drakeo’s brother Devante Caldwell, who goes by the name Ralfy The Plug, was convicted on charges of second degree commercial burglary and possession of an assault rifle. Co-defendant Mikell Buchanan was convicted on charges of murder and attempted murder with a gang enhancement. He faces the possibility of life in prison without parole. Both men, along with Drakeo, were members of the Stinc Team crew.

Prosecutors argued that Drakeo was plotting to kill rapper RJ at a warehouse party in Carson, California on the night of December 10, 2016. The District Attorney argued that Drakeo provided Buchanan and Jaiden Boyd with the firearms that would be used to execute his plan. RJ never showed up.

That same night, a shooting occurred outside the warehouse, and 24-year-old Davion Gregory was killed with two others injured. Drakeo was arrested, and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and several counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Drakeo maintained his innocence throughout the process, stating, “I didn’t do it. On the record.”

“I think it’s only because I’m a rapper and the last case didn’t go how they wanted it to go,” he told PassionWeiss in 2018. “They probably listened to my music and got mad, and it’s probably not an accident that this happened a couple days after the LA Times story.”
