Drake’s ‘So Far Gone’ Re-Release Was His 10th Consecutive Top 10 Album

Written by on February 24, 2019

Drake landed another top 10 hit without actually releasing a new album. His recently re-released mixtape So Far Gone debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, a full ten years after the project was first released.

Drake’s 2009 mixtape was shared on streaming services for the first time this week, and its 45,000 equivalent album sales (and 7,000 in actual sales) were enough for the midway point of Billboard‘s top 10. The album was Drake’s 10th total top 10 album and also his 10th consecutive top 10 debut.

The album is expected to be released on CD on March 8 via Young Money/Cash Money/Republic. Drake’s first commercially released album was largely comprised of tracks from the mixtape. The So Far Gone EP was Drake’s first proper release and his first top 10 hit. It combined five songs from the mixtape with two new songs. Both of the So Far Gone releases are Drake’s only albums to not hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Drake thanked everyone involved in the original tape ahead of the mixtape’s release. He even thanked Kanye for clearing the “Say You Will” sample in spite of their recent arguments.
