Dwight Howard is planning to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.

According to Charania, the 33-year-old’s agent has finalized a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Just a few days ago, Charania reported that the Lakers wanted to speak with Howard following DeMarcus Cousins’ torn ACL. Howard previously played with the Lakers during the 2012–2013 season.

Stay tuned as more details arrive.

Not too long ago, Howard was a guest on FS1’s Fair Game with Kristine Leahy. While there, he spoke about his relationship with Kobe Bryant and opened up about the time the Lakers legend called him “soft.”

“I kinda hated him for saying that because I looked at it the wrong way,” Howard explained. “I think he was more so talking about my mentality…not how I am on the court. And I didn’t realize that because all the noise surrounding him saying I was soft. And I hated him. I hated him for that moment.” Despite feeling like that when it happened, Howard said he later understood where Kobe was coming from and even thanked him. “I think at that time I was ignorant to the level that he was at. So I appreciate you, Kobe. Thank you for saying I was soft. I didn’t realize what you meant until now.”
