Early Reactions Suggest That ‘The Mandalorian’ Is Really, Really Good

Written by on October 19, 2019

Disney‘s Star Wars series The Mandalorian will not disappoint—at least according to the early reactions.

In anticipation of the show’s premiere next month, Lucasfilm hosted a press junket Saturday, that included a 27-minute preview of The Mandalorian‘s first episode. Journalists who attended the event have since taken to social media to share their first impressions. By all accounts, it’s an absolute triumph that is both refreshingly new and reminiscent of the original Star Wars films.

“Just saw almost 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian’s pilot episode,” Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm tweeted. “It feels like a thrilling return to the original trilogy era of Star Wars. It feels like a big scale movie, not a tv series. They are still keeping a lot of mystery with deliberate cuts in the footage.”

ScreenRant’s Mansoor Mithaiwala had a similar reaction, praising the series’ production value as well as its depiction of Star Wars concepts that have never been explored on screen. “It looks like the films, feels innately Star Wars, introduces new concepts, and adds layers that people have been waiting to see for a long time,” he wrote.

Those who were lucky enough to get the sneak peek haven’t revealed specific details about what they saw , but their reports have undoubtedly raised expectations. Jon Favreau wrote The Mandalorian and serves as its showrunner. The series is said to take place five years after the fall of the Empire and 25 years before the emergence of the First Order. Pedro Pascal leads the cast as the show’s title character, and is joined by Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Werner Herzog and Omid Abtahi.

The Mandalorian will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service when it launches Nov. 12. Until then, check out some of the other early reactions below.
