Elon Musk Suggests Tesla Has 250,000 Pre-Orders for New Cybertruck

Written by on November 27, 2019

Serial troll Elon Musk is back at it on Twitter. The SpaceX founder sent out a tweet suggesting that Tesla had received 250,000 pre-orders for the Cybertruck on Tuesday, but all is not as it seems.

He tweeted “250k” in what is likely a reference to the number of pre-orders his company has received.

The “orders” Musk is referring to are actually refundable pre-order deposits of $100, which aren’t even considered to be deposits for the vehicle, according to CNBC. “146k Cybertruck orders so far, with 42 percent choosing dual, 41 percent tri and 17 percent single motor with no advertising and no paid endorsement,” he tweeted on November 23.

There are a few other things Cybertruck fans need to do before they can purchase the futuristic vehicle. “After you submit your completed pre-order and the options you selected become available in production, we will invite you to complete the configuration of your Vehicle,” the Cybertruck Motor Vehicle Pre-Order Agreement reads. “We will then issue you the Vehicle Configuration and Final Price Sheet based on the base price of the model and any options included or that you select.”

Musk’s rollout of the Cybertruck has not gone without a few hiccups.

“You want a truck that’s really tough? Not fake tough?” Musk asked the crowd at his Los Angeles launch event. “You want a truck you can take a sledgehammer to, a truck that won’t scratch, doesn’t dent.” Well, Tesla design head Franz vol Holzhausesn threw a metal ball at the truck, breaking its windows. “Oh my fucking god,” Musk exclaimed at the time.

Tesla’s share price took a hit after the Cybertruck launch disaster, Forbes reported.

The Cybertruck starts at $39,900.
