As Emily Ratajkowski continues to share more of her story about Robin Thicke allegedly groping her during the “Blurred Lines” music video shoot, she has just revealed why she hadn’t come forward with claims earlier.
In a new interview with People, Ratajkowski said that the main reason she didn’t come forward sooner was that she felt like she would be blackballed if she did.
“I was an unknown model and if I had spoken out or complained, I would not be where I am today; I would not be famous,” she explained. Ratajkowski described how her new book, My Body, dives deeper into the situation and how she has grown past it.
“I wrote a book about the evolution of my politics and that includes a lot of different experiences from my career and my life and the way that I felt and thought about those experiences have evolved,” she said. “I hope people are able to read the essay and understand the nuance behind these kinds of situations.”
In her book, Ratajkowski details how the alleged groping took place on the set for “Blurred Lines,” which has been criticized for being misogynistic, as well as promoting rape culture and sexual violence against women.
“Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke,” Ratajkowski wrote. She also added that the video’s director, Diane Martel, immediately stepped in when she noticed what had happened and reprimanded Thicke.
“I remember the moment that he grabbed her breasts,” Martel said, confirming the incident according to the New York Post. “One in each hand. He was standing behind her as they were both in profile. I screamed in my very aggressive Brooklyn voice, ‘What the fuck are you doing, that’s it!! The shoot is over!!’”
Robin Thicke has yet to respond to the allegations.
