Emmy Winner and ‘Rhoda’ Star Valerie Harper Dead at 80 Following Battle With Cancer

Valerie Harper, a four time Emmy winner and a one time Golden Globe winner, has passed away following a battle with cancer, the Associated Press reports. She was 80. In 2013, Harper revealed that she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given three months to live.
Harper was known for her roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, its spinoff Rhoda, and Valerie. She played the role of Rhoda Morgenstern in both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda. Harper worked on numerous other television shows and movies throughout her career. She was on the shows Columbo, The Muppet Show, Touched by an Angel, Sex and the City, That ’70s Show, Desperate Housewives, The Simpsons, American Dad!, and others. On the film side of things, Harper was in The Great Mom Swap, Freebie and the Bean, Blame It on Rio, and Chapter Two. In addition to films and television, Harper also perform on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2010 for her part in Looped.
