Fans Are Not Down With Doc Rivers Comparing Kawhi Leonard to Michael Jordan

One would be hard-pressed to find someone that doesn’t think Kawhi Leonard is having a historic playoff run with the Raptors. Yet, the praises got a little out of hand for some, when Clippers’ coach Doc Rivers claimed that Kawhi is the closest thing the league has seen to Michael Jordan since His Airness retired.
“[Kawhi] is the most like Jordan that we’ve seen,” Doc said during his Monday appearance on NBA on ESPN. While he does separate LeBron James and Kevin Durant from the conversation in addition to highlighting the similarities in Kawhi and Jordan’s physique, fans were still wondering who the “we” is that Rivers referenced. Upon hearing Doc’s comments, NBA fans took to Twitter where they struggled to figure out why Rivers overlooked the overt kinship between MJ and Kobe Bryant in favor of Kawhi.
From the ashes of Rivers’ hot take, basketball fans came up with logical theory for this apparent blasphemy. Despite leading Toronto to their first NBA Finals appearance, there is a possibility that Kawhi will not resign with the Raptors. Although Toronto has put together several clever campaigns to entice the Klaw, Las Vegas bookkeepers have Rivers’ Clippers as the favorites to land Leonard. Some fans viewed Rivers’ comments as a slick form of tampering.
We’ll see Kawhi in action on Thursday, when the Raptors face off against the Golden State Warriors in game 1 of the NBA Finals.
