FaZe Clan Suspends ‘Fortnite’ Player Dubs Over Hate Speech

Written by on March 1, 2020

FaZe Clan has suspended Daniel “Dubs” Walsh from its team, after the pro Fortnite player was heard using a racial slur online.

The incident occurred sometime on Friday, when Dubs blurted out “fucking n****r” while playing the battle royale game. The 16-year-old used the slur nonchalantly, seemingly unaware that another gamer was livestreaming at the time.

“Yo, I’m streaming!” another guy is heard saying in a panic. “I’m streaming, I’m streaming, I’m streaming, Dubs. I’m being deadass. On God, I’m streaming.”

On Saturday afternoon, Dubs took to social media to issue an apology, stating he “did not intend to be hurtful in any way.”

“What I said was still hurtful, insensitive, and wrong,” he wrote. “The word shouldn’t have been in my vocabulary and I apologize from the bottom my heart to everyone I offended by using it. You deserve better.”

Dubs signed with FaZe Clan in 2019, and managed to qualify for both the duos and solo events at the Fortnite World Cup. The Esports team released a statement shortly after Dubs’ apology, confirming he had been suspended indefinitely.

“FaZe Clan will not tolerate any form of Hate Speech,” the statement read. “It is imperative for us to foster an inclusive environment in this community. Due to his actions, we are suspending Dubs indefinitely from representing FaZe Clan while in professional competition, streaming, or posting on his social channels.”

The team says it is requiring Dubs and all its members to go through sensitivity training immediately.
