FBI’s Massive College Bribery Bust Brings Out the Jokes

Perhaps you heard about the FBI busting up a massive alleged college bribery operation. If not, maybe the fact that it involves household names will make it of interest. If not that, just consider the fact that the alleged bribery and entrance exam cheating scheme is claimed to have involved both millions of dollars and a methodology that reportedly allowed for most of the affected students to be oblivious to the alleged operation.

Mossimo Giannulli, Felicity Huffman, and Lori Loughlin are among those alleged to have participated in the collegiate plot. All three received charges, including conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, and are part of what federal officials said Tuesday represents a “catalog of wealth and privilege.”

In short, dozens of individuals—also including several university coaches—are accused of involvement with a “conspiracy that facilitated cheating on college entrance exams and the admission of students to elite universities as purported athletic recruits.” A key element of this multimillion-dollar pissing in the face of anyone who actually got into the college of their choice on merit was manipulation of entrance exams, with unsealed documents alleging that some exams were moved to a controlled environment to make cheating as easy as possible.
