Filming for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Series Spinoff Will Reportedly Begin in October 2019

Written by on January 1, 2019

Production Weekly reports the spinoff series centered around rebel spy Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will begin production in October 2019.

That production date could set the series up for a 2020 release, according to ComicBook.com.

The spinoff will become the second live-action series from the Star Wars franchise to hit the Disney+ streaming service, joining The Mandalorian. The show is described as a “rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.” It will also feature Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian.

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement in response to the announcement of the series. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

Unless you weren’t one of the people who contributed to the over $1 billion worldwide amassed by Rogue One in the box office, then you know that this upcoming series will be a prequel to the 2016 film. Cassian and Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, among others, died on the planet Scarif in their successful retrieval of the Death Star schematics to help in what ultimately led to the destruction of the first space station in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
